Position Overview:
 
Data Center Infrastructure Engineer/Technical Lead will be the primary technical liaison between the Zones service delivery team and the customer. The primary focus is to execute on the Data Center Transformation/Migration/Managed services plan and ensure a smooth implementation of the target state environment and ensure functioning of the Networks, Servers, and Storage to align with the performance and availability requirements of the customer.
 
The ideal candidate should be able to understand all elements and dependencies including the Application environment that impact the Transformation/Migration of a customer datacenter and incorporate them into the overall IT infrastructure, design, and implementation plans.
 
The Data Center Infrastructure Engineer will work within a Cisco Nexus and Dell Technologies environment and align to other new Technologies and tools the customer is adopting as part of their IT Roadmap/Architecture plans.
 
The candidate will act as Level 3 support for any configurations and troubleshooting required for the Data Center’s Network elements and work with cross functional teams to solve the tickets and provide Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
 
What you’ll do as the Data Center Infrastructure Engineer:

  • Ability to understand business requirements and transform it into a robust and efficient solution at optimized efforts and within budgeted costs.
  • Evaluate and recommend infrastructure solutions to best meet the business needs. 
  • Lead the Engineering team during the Implementation and Managed Services. 
  • Help develop implementation plan for infrastructure architecture based on IT strategies and business requirements.
  • Develop Rack layout diagrams, port mapping, topology diagrams and other technical documentation.
  • Review the Data Center infrastructure design documents which includes compute, storage and backup, networks, and security and provide feedback. 
  • Review and document existing Equipment infrastructure, including quantity/ types of devices, device Host Names, IP Addresses, cable types and more. 
  • Assure that the most appropriate IT practices measures are in place. 
  • Partner with other Engineers during the project and provide work direction and oversight for the cross-functional. 
  • Act as an escalation point for any technical issues that may appear during the project. 
  • Perform Site Surveys in the Data Center for installation readiness.
  • Supervise the on-site installation, connectivity, integration and test of the equipment in Data Center– network, servers, storage, security, telecom, etc. 
  • Ensure quality of work among the team. 
  • Troubleshoot network issues related to configurations, switching and routing – Nexus switches, VPC peer technology. 
  • Develop processes and templates for handover to Managed Services 
  • Participate in internal and customer facing meetings, provide updates and clearly explain  
 
What you will bring to the team:
 
  • Excellent knowledge of Data Center design, installation, integration, handover to managed services.
  • Hands-on experience in Data Center requirements and readiness including but not only: space, power, security, fire prevention, racks, cable managers, cabling, PDUs.
  • Good understanding of Data Center cabling standards including structured cabling.
  • Good understanding of cloud technologies and integration between Network elements and on prem cloud platforms.
  • Hands on experience in Data Centers, Private Cloud Build implementation and managed services projects.
  • Excellent Communication skills, previous experience in a customer facing role. 
  • Self-starter, driven lead with ability to navigate ambiguous situations. 
  • Familiar with formal change control procedures and protocol
  • Excellent technical knowledge and experience with networking technologies
  • Cisco (Nexus 9K, Catalyst Switches, Routers, ISE, FirePower, etc.)
  • F5, F5 load balancers
  • Smart PDUs (ex: APC)
  • DNS/NTP/SMTP
  • SNMP
  • Failover
  • Integration experience between Network and Server/Storage/Backup Technologies
  • Dell Technologies (Dell VxRail, etc), HPE, NetApp 
  • Technical knowledge with Virtualization/Private Cloud (VMWare, RHEL)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or Telecommunications
  • Experience: +7y in a similar role
  • CCNA, and CCNP certifications with at least progress toward a CCIE certification required.
  • Ability to travel to the data centers and customer sites when required.
