ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish.

Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.
 

POSITION SUMMARY:

World Relief seeks a Childcare Assistant to work with the Family Literacy Manager to provide childcare and educational experiences for refugee and immigrant children Mondays-Thursdays from 4:30-7:30 pm while their parents participate in an onsite ESL program at World Relief Western NY.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    • Supervise babies and children of various cultural backgrounds and ages, especially 0–3-year-olds 
    • Actively engage children in recreational and learning activities, group games and creative play
    • Help children learn and discover new interests by introducing them to art, music, sports, books, puzzles, games, etc. 
    • Coordinate small group of volunteers to assist in providing childcare for 0–3-year-olds 
    • Facilitate the sign-in and sign-out of children by parents 
    • Maintain a safe, orderly environment for children, including one that includes no bullying or violent play 
    • Engage parents for instances of child misbehavior, soiled diapers, extreme discontent, or other issues as needed 
    • Abide by mandatory reporting laws and document any behavioral or accidental incidents
    • Ensure childcare space is clean and free of hazards 
    • Closely coordinate with the Family Literacy Manager •Other duties as assigned by supervisor

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • Mature and personal Christian faith
    • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
    • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
    • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
    • Ability to be on-site from 4:30-7:30pm Monday-Thursday during the Rochester City School District school year, including summer school 
    • Previous experience working with children required
    • Ability to be flexible to respond to changing needs of the program 
    • Dependable, professional, and capable of working independently
