Job Description

Skydance Animation Madrid is seeking a motivated CFX Trainee to support their team. Responsibilities include creating and understanding cloth, hair, feather, and skin simulation rigs in Houdini; staying updated on artistic methodologies and technological trends; following supervisor guidance; collaborating with team members; familiarizing oneself with studio workflows; adapting to shot work workflows; and attending department meetings. The internship offers networking opportunities, skill development, and real-world experience. This paid, on-site internship is ideal for those transitioning from academia to the animation industry. The ideal candidate possesses artistic and technical aptitude in 3D animation, understands grooming, surfacing, rendering, and simulation processes, and has Houdini knowledge, particularly in cloth and hair simulation.
Must have:
  • Houdini knowledge (cloth & hair simulation)
  • Understanding of grooming, surfacing, rendering, and simulation
  • Artistic/technical aptitude in 3D animation
  • 3+ months onsite availability
  • Enrolled in accredited program
Good to have:
  • Knowledge of grooming tools in Houdini
  • VEX, Python, or C/C++ programming
  • Spanish language skills

Skydance Animation Madrid is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic CFX trainee to join our studio!
 
As a CFX trainee, you will be supporting the CFX team in creating dynamic rigs for characters and executing CFX work in shots including character simulations, geometry correctives, and groom correctives. 
 
Our Internship Program offers its own unique learning opportunities. You will have the chance to network and meet with Skydance leaders, learn transferable skills, and gain real-world experience. It is an experience ideal for those moving from the classroom to the industry.
 
This is a paid internship that will be held on-site.

Responsibilities

    • Creates and understands existing cloth, hair, feathers and skin simulations rigs in Houdini.
    • Keeps up on current artistic methodologies and on technology trends and tools that best suit the production and the company, in the development of a stronger creative and technical environment.
    • Follows supervisor’s and lead´s guidance.
    • Follows the Tutor’s guidance.
    • Is proactive and work alongside other team members to improve their skills.
    • Gets familiarized with the studio’s workflows and pipeline.
    • Adapts to shot work workflows, submit and review shots.
    • Attends department meetings.

Requirements

    • Artistic or/and technical aptitude related to 3D animation is a must. 
    • Good understanding of the processes of grooming, surfacing, rendering, and simulation. 
    • Knowledge of Houdini, especially in regard to cloth and hair simulation.
    • Knowledge of grooming tools is a plus (in Houdini), VEX, Python or C/C++ programming.
    • Must be available for at least 3 months onsite (from Monday until Friday, 35h/week).
    • Must be currently enrolled in your last year in an Associate, Bachelor, or Master’s program at an accredited institution.
    • Self-starter with proficient writing and critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
    • Highly motivated and interested in Animation and Technology.
    • Excellent communication with Sup, Leads and the rest of the team.
    • Good team player!
    • High English level.
    • Spanish desirable.

About Skydance Interactive

Skydance Interactive creates and publishes original and IP-based virtual reality games. The division of Skydance Media was launched in 2016 through the acquisition of The Workshop Entertainment. About Animation

In 2017, Skydance formed an animation division to develop and produce a slate of high-end feature films and television series in partnership with Spain’s Ilion Animation Studios. Skydance’s first three animated features are Luck, Split (working title), and Powerless (working title). Luck, directed by Alessandro Carloni (Kung Fu Panda 3) and written by Jonathan Aibel & Glenn Berger, is a comedy that pulls back the curtain on the millennia-old battle between the organizations of good luck and bad luck that secretly affects our daily lives. Split, directed by Vicky Jenson (Shrek) and written by Linda Woolverton, tells the story of Elian, a teenager who comes of age using her magical powers to defend her family when the opposing forces of light and darkness threaten to divide her kingdom. Nathan Greno (Tangled) is set to direct Powerless. The studio is located in Los Angeles, CA.
