JOB TITLE: Associate Team Lead, Game Capture

DEPARTMENT: Marketing Creative

REPORTING TO: Associate Creative Director, Capture  

LOCATION: Santa Monica, California

YOUR MISSION

As a part of Marketing Creative at Activision, you will lead the capture team to create industry leading game capture and help guide and teach the next generation of game capture directors. You will be responsible for helping your team hone the skills they need to be expert photographers, cinematographers and directors, and be elevating the bar on what is possible in the realm of game capture across Call of Duty® and other Activision titles.  This is a people manager focused role, a deep understanding of photography is required alongside a passion for helping train and mentor others in their careers.

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working closely with our Capture Team Lead you will manage and train a team of game capture artists across both video and screenshots disciplines with a focus on virtual photography, helping to elevate the team’s understanding of photography techniques and composition in virtual environments.

  • Oversee screenshots requests and give critical feedback, working with the ACD to ensure the creative briefs are being met and presenting the work to stakeholders as needed

  • Provide regular 1 on 1’s with the artists to provide feedback and mentoring and conduct employee reviews and assessments to help grow our artists careers

  • Assist with hiring and onboarding of new artists

  • Document and maintain capture processes and training materials, providing a robust onboarding and training program

  • Seek out learning opportunities for the team that help inspire and elevate their work

  • Collaborate with Creative Leads, ACD’s and Story team on creative concepts and take point on projects as needed

  • Help with the research and development of new in-game camera tools and capture processes, and working with our game studios to implement them

  • Work with proprietary debug tools and troubleshoot technical issues, including builds, PC workstations, console dev kits, etc. 

  • Educate and advocate across the org on what game capture best practices are and our team’s capabilities 

DESIRED SKILL SET

  • An expert understanding of photography (composition, lighting, camera movement, etc…), able to create breathtaking cinematic captures in virtual environments.

  • Experience with a wide range of photography techniques and mediums

  • Expert knowledge of the Adobe Suite, with a focus on Photoshop.

  • Management/team leadership experience

  • Proven experience working with video game graphics, textures, lighting, and tools 

  • Comfortable working in a game editor and with animation and/or camera sequencing tools such as Unreal Sequencer, Unity Cinemachine or other similar proprietary software

  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills with both PC and consoles

  • Able to effectively plan complicated action sequences involving the blocking of action and correct camera placement

  • A passion for photography, film and other cinematic media.

  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills. 

  • Strong communication skills.

  • College degree in the requisite field or equivalent work experience. 

PLUSES

  • Video game industry or agency game capture experience. 

  • Avid gamer on next-gen platforms and PCs, with a focus on Call of Duty/FPS titles. 

  • Real-world experience in cinematography or photography.

  • Knowledge and understanding of VFX/3D design programs such as After Effects, C4D, Maya, or Blender.

  • Understanding of game development, the full cycles, and processes behind how a game is made

  • Knowledge of the motion capture process.

  • Interest in virtual production.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $72,720.00 - $134,460.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
