The Vice President, Software Development, Automation, Material Handling will oversee a team of 40+ development personnel, leading new product architecture and driving cutting-edge engineering and product development for next-generation material handling solutions. Responsibilities include defining system architecture and implementation processes, working with sales and clients on requirements, managing project delivery, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, overseeing software engineering processes (from specification to support), introducing new technologies, supervising team members, directing R&D efforts, enhancing user experience, and assisting in partner analysis. The VP will provide executive leadership and direction across software engineering, testing, deployment, and support teams. This is a remote position requiring strong leadership, technical skills, and experience with material handling systems and automation software.
Must have:
  • 10+ years senior management experience in client-based software solutions
  • Experience growing and scaling software development teams
  • Understanding of SOA, distributed systems, Windows/Linux, and relevant programming languages

Vice President, Software Development, Automation, Material Handling

The Position


The company is seeking an accomplished and dynamic Vice President, Product Development to be a part of the company’s executive leadership team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role will oversee a team of 40+ development personnel through five managers. The Vice President, Product Development will lead new product architecture and drive cutting edge engineering and product development to bring a new generation of Material Handling solutions.


The Vice President, Product Development will need to lead and manage new software and development processes, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. The Vice President will provide executive leadership, development and direction over software engineering, testing, deployment and support teams.





Principal Responsibilities & Duties:


Control and create definition of the system architecture and implementation processes for delivering world class solutions to clients.

Work directly with sales and clients to jointly create “needs based” functional requirements/specifications to promote further interest in company solutions.

Provide necessary implementation structure and processes to allow for scalability of delivery capabilities through use management of outsourced and junior development engineers.

Manage, monitor, and control the delivery of on-time projects through appropriate allocation of resources.

Work to create greater vision and visibility of the product to customers, prospective customers, and various adjacent senior management groups within the organization.

Align the company’s business growth strategy with employees, clients and vendors.

Oversee and direct the software engineering processes including functional and design specification, prototyping, review, development, testing, QA, internal and external documentation, implementation, 24/7/365 support and patch/upgrade/release management.

Introduce new technologies, tools and education, ensuring the company remains a competitive and compelling organization.

Supervise and create enhanced accountability of Software team members.

Direct R&D efforts for future state of software and introduce new functionalities.

Enhance client’s user experience through improvement of UIs (client, server, web, mobile).

Assist in analyzing potential “Partnering” companies who have synergistic products that could add significant value to product offerings. 

Travel as required to fulfill responsibilities.



The Candidate


The company is looking for a proven Vice President, Product Development capable of delivering cutting edge, next generation material handling software solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and technical skills, with a background of proven products that have successfully entered the market. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop strong relationships and collaborate well with various teams including: sales, operations and finance.


The ideal candidate will have proven experience with software architecture and engineering management. The Vice President will not be hands-on, but needs to be a mentor and coach to lead the development team. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in material handling systems and automation software. The Vice President must have strong leadership skills and the ability to drive innovation and product development. S/he will need to have effective communication skills with the ability to convey complex information and key concepts adapted for audiences, including but not limited to the Corporate Executive Team and Board of Directors.




The individual we are seeking must have previous experience in software product development life cycle, technical prowess of modern software architecture, and significant leadership experience with development, quality and deployment teams for “mission critical” software products used by customers.




Summary of Requirements:


·  Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s is preferred.


· Minimum 10 years’ experience in senior management position(s) responsible for the delivery of client-based software solutions with a preference for operational process improvement and/or controls-based software.


· Progressive professional growth through various software development and leadership positions.


· Demonstrated ability to grow and scale software development and deployment teams.


· Have a thorough understanding of Service Orientated Architecture (SOA), distributed process-based systems, Windows and Linux operating systems, and associated programming languages.


· Experience with Python, Azure, Kubernetes, cloud-based systems also a plus. 


· Have a strong desire to build a dynamic team environment.


· Expertise in growing internal software development and deployment teams for scalability. 


· Microsoft competencies a plus.
