Job Summary

he Senior Data Scientist will play a key role on the Data Operations team, building and maintaining predictive models that support multiple business lines under the Porch Group Media (PGM). In this role, the Senior Data Scientist will independently identify data requirements, create analytic files, estimate and deploy models, and maintain a library of algorithms to support various business needs. The role requires deep expertise in statistical modeling, data science techniques, and proficiency with Python to maintain and enhance algorithms across business units.

The ideal candidate will act as the subject-matter expert in predictive algorithms, ensuring their statistical soundness and business relevance. They will be able to explain the attributes driving predictions and offer insights into the causality behind the results. Projects may leverage both automated modeling platforms and Python, so proficiency in these tools is essential.

Success in this role requires the ability to develop project plans, commit to deadlines, and collaborate with teams to ensure continuous business operations.

What You Will Do As A Senior Data Scientist

  • Own the development, deployment, and maintenance of predictive models driving Porch Pro and PGM audiences.
  • Develop and maintain a roadmap of new algorithms to be created and deployed.
  • Document all algorithms, including initial definitions, model summaries, and recommended cutoffs.
  • Manage the regular updates of machine learning models, including data refreshes and code updates using Python.
  • Lead discussions and project meetings with both internal and external stakeholders to kick off and deliver modeling projects.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of data science solutions, collaborating with the broader data operations and business teams.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights that influence business decisions. Develop predictive and prescriptive models to address business challenges.
  • Design, implement, and optimize machine learning models, including supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, to solve various business problems such as customer segmentation, recommendation engines, and fraud detection.
  • Apply advanced statistical methods, optimization techniques, and algorithms to drive product development, process optimization, and decision-making processes.
  • Work closely with product managers, engineers, business analysts, and executives to understand business needs, translate them into analytical solutions, and ensure data-driven decision-making.
  • Help define and evolve the organization’s data strategy by identifying new opportunities, selecting appropriate tools, and promoting best practices for data management and usage.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to build and enhance data pipelines, ensuring the availability and quality of data for analysis.
  • Create dashboards and reports to effectively communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What You Will Bring As A Senior Data Scientist

  • Bachelor's Degree (or 4 years of relevant professional experience in lieu of) required; Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • 8-12 years of experience in data science, with a focus on predictive modeling.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, particularly SQL (any variation) and Python.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis and presentations.
  • Experience with machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Py Torch).
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and multivariate analysis.
  • Expertise in visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or custom Python/R visualizations (e.g., matplotlib, seaborn, Plotly).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data and business problems into actionable insights.
  • Experience with A/B testing, experimentation platforms, and causal inference.
  • Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP), time-series forecasting, or deep learning techniques.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices for machine learning (MLOps), model deployment, and monitoring.
  • High standards for commitment, quality, and simplicity in work.
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset and actively participates in the PMG community.
  • Proven experience working with US based business teams
  • Excellent written and communication skills in English language
  • Ability to work within core US business hours / time zone expectations - Eastern Standard Time (EST) overlap
