Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game development studio located in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing up our development team with outstanding talent to build our first multi-platform, AAA game - a bold and contemporary new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only build an outstanding AAA experience but to also help form the core foundations for the studio and team to build upon. We are seeking a talented Sr. Biome and Foliage Artist to join our team, focusing on crafting immersive and realistic environmental assets. This role is vital to creating stunning in-game worlds, combining both artistic vision and technical expertise. You will work on creating detailed foliage, trees, plants, and terrain elements while ensuring they are optimized for performance. Your work will contribute to the visual and gameplay experience, bringing life to a variety of game environments.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Design and create high-quality 3D models for foliage, trees, rocks, and other terrain assets, ensuring they meet both artistic and gameplay requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Art Director and Environment Leads to define and maintain visual style and standards for biomes and natural environments.
  • Integrate foliage and terrain assets into the game engine, ensuring optimal performance and visual fidelity.
  • Work closely with game designers to ensure that foliage and terrain elements support gameplay functionality and mechanics.
  • Refine and optimize asset pipelines, incorporating new tools and techniques to improve workflow efficiency and quality.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • Proven experience creating foliage and biome assets for AAA games, with a portfolio that demonstrates expertise in vegetation and natural environments.
  • Proficiency in tools like SpeedTree, ZBrush, Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, and Substance Painter/Designer.
  • Strong understanding of PBR workflows and real-time rendering techniques for creating photo-realistic environments.
  • Ability to balance artistic creativity with technical constraints to deliver optimized assets that perform well in-game.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to new challenges in asset creation and optimization.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments including Art, Design, and Tech.
  • Familiarity with game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity, with experience in integrating and optimizing assets within these platforms.

 

Compensation Range, Currency USD:

  • Starting Pay Range: $88,100
  • Pay Range End: $175,100
