The Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) who is passionate about quality to join the TV Release Quality team. The TV Release Quality team is dedicated to testing, measuring, understanding, and communicating the overall quality of our TV streaming application both before and after it is released to production. The team will focus on improving and innovating in the spaces of our test automation framework, metrics, observability, and alerting. This team will also set a strategic vision for test automation and quality in the TV space, collaborating with stakeholders and partners across Netflix.

About the role

  • Join a team of senior foundational TV UI engineers who value inclusion, transparency, autonomy, and humility.

  • Identify and build innovative solutions that improve our understanding of the quality of the TV streaming application.

  • Tell the quality story of our product through improved observability, alerting, dashboarding, and tools.

  • Strengthen our test automation foundations and signals.

  • Work in our custom TV platform space, which has unique constraints and capabilities.

  • Collaborate, build alignment, and develop strong relationships with engineers and leaders across multiple teams.

What sets you apart

  • You love to empower other engineers and strive to understand their use cases.

  • Experience defining release/regression/smoke testing strategies for large applications developed across multiple teams

  • Experience developing internal tools to improve developer experience and productivity

  • You have deep expertise in troubleshooting highly complex web automated testing failures (using both industry-standard frameworks and in-house developed tooling) and working directly with developers to triage issues quickly.

  • You have experience working with backend partners to troubleshoot dependency failures and collaborate on improving E2E testing reliability.

  • You are proficient in TypeScript/Javascript.

  • You are an expert at working with large data sets to answer questions, extract patterns, and make decisions

  • You can run with ambiguous requirements and have a strong bias to action.

  • You value the perspectives of others when identifying solutions.

  • You know there is rarely one “right” solution, and you make thoughtful trade-offs.

  • You proactively give and receive feedback, even when it's hard.

  • You contribute to building an inclusive team culture that enables team members of all backgrounds to succeed and thrive.

  • You have a tester mindset, are curious, and come up with interesting test scenarios

  • You are creative in applying proven tools/test frameworks as well as crafting new solutions to challenging problems

  • You have excellent debugging skills in diagnosing issues in a multi-tier web architecture

  • You work closely with cross-functional partners to communicate impact and understand business requirements

  • You are self-motivated and high-performing, with a passion for both the business and the tech
