Senior Process Engineer

Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this role is to provide technical process engineering support to ensure safe and efficient production at the site. This role performs engineering assignments that are typically a significant portion of a larger project and ensures successful completion of assigned project phases within the budgeted time and cost constraints. In addition, the role works in close collaboration with other engineers/managers at the site providing technical support and mentoring for the production processes, optimization of process conditions, product quality control, and continuous process improvement. 

Key Outcomes / Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead by example in safe, environmentally responsible manufacturing operations; champion safety vision and initiatives.
  • Integrate Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) responsibilities into projects, plans, and activities; ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct and lead incident investigations using root cause analysis; lead pre-startup reviews for new processes.
  • Safeguard company assets by making risk-averse decisions and minimizing adverse effects on SHE.
  • Participate in and implement recommendations from PHA/LOPA and RBPS audits; support SHE and Process Safety improvements.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and monitor batch data to optimize process conditions.
  • Identify production problems and implement continuous improvements using the Management of Change system.
  • Develop and improve DCS logic, graphics, and instrumentation; maintain accurate SAP data on assigned products.
  • Revise piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and assist with maintaining effective safety systems.
  • Coordinate efforts across departments and integrate engineering solutions; issue temporary operating procedures as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance and support globally, including troubleshooting, training, and start-ups.
  • Develop design solutions for new and existing projects; provide engineering support to toll manufacturing.
  • Participate in quality meetings, investigate non-conforming batches, and monitor SPC/SQC trends.
  • Apply global engineering standards to new projects; share product knowledge globally to reduce waste.
  • Lead customer complaint investigations and implement approved solutions; support market research initiatives.
  • Identify and assist with plant projects that improve capacity, COGS, quality, and safety; manage project documentation.
  • Adhere to global CAPEX governance and project management guidelines; assist in developing new or modified manufacturing processes.

 

Minimum / Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • 10-14 years of experience in process design, manufacturing, and CAPEX project management is required
  • Demonstrated agility with technology and computer systems 
  • Strong proficiency in process design standards, tools, and processes.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills to translate strategic direction into tactical plans and implementation activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills capable of working with a diverse group of people and cultures.

 

Highly Desirable Experiences:

  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and boards of directors
  • Batch chemical processes
