Job Description

Lead/Senior General Ledger Accountant needed to mentor, lead, and develop a team of 3 General Ledger Accountants. Responsibilities include overseeing general ledger accounts for German entities, ensuring financial record accuracy, preparing financial statements (HGB compliance), managing month-end/year-end closing processes, monthly reporting, internal control adherence, audit support, process improvement, and ad-hoc reporting. The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance, 5+ years of experience (auditing experience a plus), strong HGB knowledge, proficiency in accounting software (Navision preferred), and excellent analytical and communication skills. Proficiency in German and English is required. The role involves working closely with internal/external stakeholders and driving process enhancements.

Must have:

Good to have:

CPA or Certified Management Accountant IHK (Bilanzbuchhalter IHK)

You as part of tonies:

We are looking for a Lead/Senior General Ledger to join our dynamic Accounting team and take ownership of key financial processes. In this role, you will mentor, lead, and develop a team of currently 3 General Ledger accountants. You will ensure the accuracy of financial records, and play a key role in the month-end and year-end closing processes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders while driving process improvements.

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

Mentor, lead and develop a team of currently 3 General Ledger Accountants.
Oversee the maintenance, reconciliation, and accuracy of general ledger accounts for our German entities, ensuring completeness of financial records.
Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with local German GAAP (HGB).
Coordinate and manage the month-end and year-end closing processes for German entities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Prepare the monthly financial reporting packages and variance analysis.
Ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies.
Act as the main point of contact for internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
Continuously identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and implement process enhancements.
Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses as needed.
Lead and participate in special projects.

What we are looking for:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, CPA or Certified Management Accountant IHK (Bilanzbuchhalter IHK) qualification.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Experience in an auditing firm is an advantage.
Strong knowledge of local GAAP Germany (HGB) and financial reporting.
Proficiency in accounting software (Microsoft Navision is an advantage) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Proficiency in both English and German.
You must be currently based in Germany.
