The role demands strong P&L management skills, experience in mergers & acquisitions, and a deep understanding of game development processes. The GM will also foster a high-performance culture, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and manage budgets effectively.

We are seeking an experienced and visionary General Manager (GM) to join our dynamic leadership team and oversee the business and development of our flagship game franchises. This is a high-impact role where you will report directly to the President of Games and play a key part in shaping the future of our premium game portfolio. You will be responsible for driving the business success of top-tier franchises (both internal and 2nd/3rd party publishing) that resonate with our members, ensuring exceptional quality, and forging long-term strategic growth in an increasingly competitive market.

This role requires a leader with a deep understanding of large-scale game development who can drive specialization and world-class quality across their remit, coupled with a strategic focus on long-term growth and innovation in partnership with the Games leadership team. The GM will oversee senior leaders and game studios, ensuring alignment with the company's vision and key objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the Games leadership team to design and implement comprehensive roadmaps for assigned game genres, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic vision and goals.

  • Lead the business unit to elevate the specialization and game quality, setting new industry standards.

  • Analyze emerging industry trends, competitor strategies, and technological advancements while partnering with the leadership team to inform strategic decisions and maintain a competitive edge.

  • Develop and execute long-term strategic plans that drive growth, innovation, and market leadership for the assigned game genres.

Game Development and Management

  • Provide leadership and oversight to multiple game studios, ensuring timely delivery, scope management, and the highest quality in game development.

  • Responsible for meeting the creative quality of the games within the GM organization and is accountable for each milestone/gate for game development and its performance in accordance with the strategic portfolio framework set by the Games leadership team.

  • Serve as an external face of the organization to the industry forging long-term partnerships with external developers and sourcing the right games to achieve strategy.

  • Establish and uphold rigorous quality assurance processes at every stage of game development & publishing, cultivating a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Strategically allocate resources—including talent, technology, and budget—within your portfolio to maximize impact, in close partnership with the Games leadership team.

Leadership and Development

  • Inspire, mentor, and develop senior leaders and their teams, fostering a high-performance culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and collaboration.

  • Identify, attract, and retain top talent within the organization, providing opportunities for professional growth and development.

  • Collaborate effectively with other departments within games organization (such as game operations, product management, portfolio production, etc) as well Netflix cross functional partners (such as marketing, consumer insights, etc) to create synergies and ensure cohesive and effective execution of game development strategies.

Financial and Performance Management

  • Develop and manage budgets for assigned game genres, ensuring financial discipline and alignment with strategic objectives.

  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of game development initiatives and inform future strategies.

  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with game development projects, ensuring proactive problem-solving and contingency planning.

Qualifications

  • Over 10 years of senior leadership experience in the game development industry, with a demonstrated ability to successfully guide large-scale, high-profile projects from concept to launch.

  • Proven expertise in managing globally distributed teams and complex, multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Strong P&L management experience, with a focus on aligning financial decisions with long-term strategic goals.

  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions, integration, and divestitures within the gaming space.

  • Comprehensive understanding of game development processes, from concept to release.

  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of motivating and guiding large, diverse teams.

  • A strategic thinker with the ability to balance visionary goals with day-to-day operational realities.

  • Deep industry knowledge, including emerging trends, market shifts, and evolving technologies.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a passion for creative innovation.

  • Proven success in collaborating with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to execute complex initiatives.

  • MBA a plus

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $500,000-$1.3M.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
