Tesla seeks a highly driven Engineering Technician for a one-year fixed-term position at its Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg. The role involves validating lithium-ion cell and battery safety performance through testing, executing tests to evaluate performance and validate requirements. Responsibilities include performing cell and battery tests using various equipment (cyclers, temperature control fixtures, environmental chambers, data loggers), summarizing results in reports, conducting destructive analysis, and working with hazardous materials. Collaboration with stakeholders and equipment building/commissioning may also be required. The ideal candidate possesses experience with cell/battery testing equipment and data processing software (MATLAB/Python, SQL a plus) and a background in relevant engineering or technical fields. Experience with safety failures, fire/burn testing, and hazardous material handling is highly desirable.

Must have:

We are looking for a highly driven technician who will work in a team to validate lithium ion cell and battery safety performance through testing. They will execute tests to evaluate performance and validate requirements. This position is fixed-term for one year.

What You’ll Do

Be a member of a cross functional product development team and perform cell and/or battery tests according to SOPs and internal standards. Own laboratory tasks and responsibilities.

Execution of cell and/or battery tests using cyclers, specialized temperature control fixtures, environmental test chambers and data loggers.

Perform cell vibration tests and execution of CT scans after training.

Summarize results in test reports.

Perform destructive analysis/teardowns of cells and/or batteries to analyze reliability and performance issues.

Projects require to work with hazardous materials using mandated PPE and setting up and performing tests in person.

As needed: Collaborate with external stakeholders and oversee testing.

As needed: Build, assemble and commission equipment for testing.

Other tasks as required.

What You’ll Bring

Experience with test equipment for cell and/or battery testing (cyclers, environmental chambers, DAQs) or comparable experience with electrical test equipment.

Ability to execute tests independently and reliably

Initial experience in MATLAB/Python or other software for data processing is a plus, SQL is a plus.

Background in electrical, mechanical, process, automotive, automation, aerospace, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics. Laboratory technicians/chemical technical assistants and comparable are also considered

Candidates with profound hands-on experience in analysis of safety failures, fire/burn testing, hazardous material handling are encouraged to apply.

Driving license class B (normal car) is required.

Fluent in English, German is a plus.
