Job Summary:

About the Role & Team

An opportunity has become available for an expert Broadcast Engineer to become part of the operations team of the London News Bureau of ABC News on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis! As a Broadcast Engineer for ABC News, you would provide full engineering services to the news gathering teams on location and in the bureau.

This role will require shift work and this can include weekends. This role can also entail travel both in the UK and internationally.

What You Will Do

  • Part of the rotation for shift based operation of the ABC News London MCR
  • When required travel to breaking news, or planned news event locations, as a field engineer providing services to news teams on location
  • Provide technical support to editorial staff both in the field and in the bureau
  • Maintain the technical equipment at the London Bureau, including IP and fibre transmission, edit rooms, MCR installations, upgrades, satellite dishes and newsroom cameras
  • Seek out and embrace new technologies for newsgathering, introducing them to support operations and news gathering
  • Operation and maintenance of the ABC News satellite truck, ensuring this is ready at all times to be deployed as directed.
  • Operate and maintain satellite uplinks and all other engineering field transmission equipment at the London Bureau and remotely
  • Participate in bureau operations and engineering projects

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education to Degree level in a related Engineering field, followed by selective theory & practical training courses during employment, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in a broadcast environment
  • Knowledge of IP is required
  • As there will be times when issues arise outside normal working hours, a willingness to be flexible in hours worked is essential
  • Flexible to travel at very short notice, both within the UK and globally
  • Ability to manage a busy workload with demanding deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ability to break down technical concepts and explain them to non-technical staff would be an advantage
