Job Description

As a Tech Artist Team Lead at SuperPlay, you will bridge the gap between creative, programming, and engineering teams. Responsibilities include acting as a liaison between programming and design teams, researching and developing technical tools, establishing art production workflows, supporting artists and engineers in the 3D art pipeline, optimizing asset performance, solving technical issues, selecting and developing software, developing and maintaining resources and pipelines, porting art assets, ensuring visual fidelity, optimizing file sizes and loading speeds, enforcing standards, preparing character systems, optimizing environments, writing custom software, implementing rendering techniques, improving performance, resolving material and collision issues, monitoring game performance, maintaining documentation, and managing and mentoring technical artists. This role requires 5+ years of Unity experience and 2+ years of leadership experience.

What will you do in SuperPlay?

Responsibilities

As a Technical Artist, you will bridge the gap between the creative, programming, and engineering teams in game development.

  • Act as a liaison between programming and design teams.
  • Research and develop technical tools for projects.
  • Establish workflows for art production.
  • Support artists and engineers in the 3D art pipeline.
  • Assist in asset performance optimization and validation.
  • Solve complex technical issues during development.
  • Select and develop software and tools necessary for game production.
  • Develop and maintain resources and pipelines in collaboration with programmers.
  • Port finished art assets to the game engine.
  • Ensure final art maintains full visual fidelity.
  • Work within the limitations of the game engine, optimizing file sizes, polygon counts, and loading speeds.
  • Enforce standards as defined by department heads.
  • Prepare and design character systems, including skeletons, cloth simulations, effect emitters, and ragdoll collisions.
  • Optimize environments and establish physics barriers.
  • Write custom software tailored to game-specific needs using industry-standard scripting languages.
  • Research and oversee the implementation of rendering techniques.
  • Improve frame rates and memory performance.
  • Resolve material errors and collision issues.
  • Monitor the game’s performance.
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation.
  • Manage and mentor Technical Artists.


Who are you?

  • 5+ years of experience with Unity.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience with proven ability to lead a team.
  • Basic knowledge of C# (required).
  • A strong portfolio or demo reel showcasing relevant work.
  • Solid understanding of art and animation pipelines.
  • Familiarity with game systems and the game development process.
  • Scripting skills to enhance tools and workflows.
  • Ability to identify and leverage the best tools and software to optimize game delivery.
  • Rendering and post-effects experience.
  • Strong understanding of rigging and animation techniques.
  • Experience with physics simulations.
  • Shader development expertise.
  • High-level artistic skills, including proportion, color, and composition.
  • A creative mindset with the ability to tackle technical challenges effectively.
  • Experience with digital art content creation (e.g., high and low-poly modeling, unwrapping, baking, texturing, level art).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to mediate between creative and technical teams.
  • Knowledge of advanced coding languages.
  • Proficiency with software such as Maya, Unity3D, and Photoshop.
