Job Description

Google's Geo team seeks a Software Engineer III, Infrastructure to build and maintain large-scale mapping infrastructure. Responsibilities include writing and reviewing code, participating in design reviews, contributing to documentation, troubleshooting system issues, and ensuring best practices. The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Computer Science or a related field, 2+ years of software development experience, and experience with data structures and algorithms. Experience with large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, and/or compute technologies is highly desirable. The role involves working on critical projects, collaborating with stakeholders, and contributing to the accuracy and usefulness of Google Maps and related products.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in CS or related field
  • 2+ years software development experience
  • Experience with data structures/algorithms
  • Code writing and review
  • System issue troubleshooting
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in Computer Science
  • Experience with large-scale infrastructure
  • Experience with distributed systems
  • Experience developing accessible technologies

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms in either an academic or industry setting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • 2 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, and/or experience with compute technologies, storage, and/or hardware architecture.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.

As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
