As a Senior Systems Engineer, Fleet Automation Systems at Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I), you'll design, deploy, and maintain datacenter infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and efficiency. This pivotal role involves leading datacenter automation, monitoring automated systems, troubleshooting issues, and implementing automation to optimize operations. A key focus is the design and implementation of fleet orchestration for Robotics/IoT-based solutions within Microsoft's vast global infrastructure spanning over 200 data centers. You'll collaborate with expert teams, supporting services for billions of customers and millions of businesses, while contributing to Microsoft's commitment to environmental sustainability. Responsibilities include architecture design and deployment of fleetwide mission control systems, automation deployment of systems for autonomous work instructions, presenting findings to decision-makers, and providing feedback for future business opportunities.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in CS or related field
  • 4+ years technical engineering experience
  • 3+ years managing cloud fleet automation systems
  • 3+ years experience with software/hardware engineering teams
  • Experience with C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Meet Microsoft security screening requirements
Good to have:

In this pivotal role, you'll be instrumental in driving the sustainable evolution of our core infrastructure and foundational technologies that power Microsoft's leading online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.

Imagine leading datacenter automation design, deploying, and maintaining datacenter infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and efficiency. Ownership of automated systems monitoring, troubleshoot issues, and implement automation to optimize operations. Specific scope includes design and implementation of fleet orchestration for Robotics/IoT based solutions.. With over 200 data centers spanning 32 countries and millions of servers, our global infrastructure is a playground for ambitious data scientists eager to make a tangible impact. Collaborating with a team of experts, you'll support services for over 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses across 90 countries, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the world of cloud computing.   • This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.
  • Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.
  • This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience managing cloud fleet scale automation systems.
  • 3+ years experience working with software and hardware engineering teams.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as an automation engineer
  • Experience working on multiple software projects simultaneously.
  • Experience influence developers without direct authority

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

  • Automation deployment of systems capable of executing package and schedule dispatch work instructions in an autonomous environment.
