About the Role

Smarsh is seeking a Sr. Director of Technical Product Management to lead the vision for the Smarsh Foundation, which represents reusable product services that are domain-centric and can be composed to create external offerings.
The Smarsh Foundation is made up of 8-9 products which are essential platform components with their own unit economics and used by 3 market facing products of Smarsh. The Smarsh Foundation operates at the scale of Petabytes of data under management, hundreds of billions of communications processed, and tens of Terabytes of data ingested every single day. The Foundation includes end-to-end products such as the Index, Data Store, Ingestion, Enrichment Engine, Machine Learning, and other services that, when composed together, create compelling Smarsh market offerings. These products utilize technologies such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Foundational Large Language Models, Amazon S3, NoSQL Databases, Kafka, Kubernetes, on-premises data stores and compute, serverless architectures, vector databases, and traditional machine learning.  
As a product leader in this group, you will drive the product strategy, vision, and roadmap. Strong judgment and communication skills, long term technical vision, and continuous focus on product, engineering and operational excellence are essential for success in this role. Operational excellence includes managing the unit economics of these products, with a goal of driving business value at the lowest possible unit price. A successful candidate will be both creative and highly analytical, able to work extremely effectively in a matrix organization, and adept at synthesizing a variety of technologies and capabilities into products and applications that internal and external customers will enjoy using.

Key Responsibilities


    • Product vision and strategy
    • Define, evolve, and maintain the target state definition/roadmap of the Smarsh Foundation in terms of services and capabilities offered from this organization.
    • Lead the definition and delivery of new services and offerings that help Smarsh product teams serve their customers and the market.
    • Enable best-in-class delivery of key Smarsh products via efficiencies delivered via the Smarsh Foundation.

    • Methodology & Operationalization
    • Own OKRs of Smarsh Foundation as a suite of products and services.
    • Champion dual track agile and product promise to proof of value.
    • Actively seek opportunities to decouple Smarsh offerings into Foundation products, defining the right level of autonomy between products and layers of the Smarsh technology stack.

    • Ease of value realization
    • Enable easy adoption and migration to the Smarsh Foundation products.
    • Promote developer evangelism with Smarsh product teams and external consumers of Smarsh Foundation.

      Operational efficiency
    • Define, Hire, Build, and Coach the product team to support Foundation organization.
    • Drive the coordination and clear communication of a multi-product roadmap, working across multiple groups.
    • Work with engineering teams to define fast-paced, but realistic schedules.
    • Own the P&L of the Smarsh Foundation team.
    • Own and define the capacity plan for the Smarsh Foundation organization

Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
    • 10+ years of experience in product or program management, product marketing, or software development.
    • 7+ years people management experience building strong teams.
    • Subject matter expertise and operating experience on key underlying technology elements cloud, platform engineering, large scale storage, indexing, search, cost optimizations at scale, etc., to effectively build a product roadmap for Smarsh Foundation.
    • Ability to execute on the Smarsh Foundation roadmap as a proof point towards Smarsh business outcomes and milestones.
    • Proven ability to identify, analyze, and solve challenging problems, showing a track record of making business decisions using relevant data and insights.
    • Demonstrated experience in building, delivering and operating products and services.
    • Executive-level product ownership including product definition, multiple release cycles, and adoption success.
    • Track record of shipping high-performance software to a wide range of customers at high velocity
    • Experience with completion of full product lifecycle (concept through GTM, including pricing and packaging, direct sales, and partner ecosystems).
    • Experience with UX Research, Design, and product-led growth methodologies.
    • Experience with agile software development methodologies and track record for prioritizing and delivering results in fast-moving environments.
