The Safety Professional will report to Manager, Safety.

What You Will Do

On any given day, as a Safety Professional, you might:

  • Promote healthy and safe working practices to all levels of leadership and lines of business to target improvements and reduce risk.
  • Facilitate compliance with occupational health and safety guidelines.
  • Assist Leaders to prevent injury and assure compliance by integrating actionable, sustainable and efficient safety processes into their business.
  • Assess safety and health performance through data review, incident history and audits. Guide the necessary behavioral or environmental changes, creatively and cost-effectively.
  • Help with Guest-related safety issues.
  • Participate in the project review process to guide safety and health improvements in the design phase.
  • Inform Operations Leaders and Safety Leadership of safety and health local, global and industry issues and safety standard processes that impact performance.
  • Attend area Leadership Staff Meetings
  • Conduct incident investigations, job safety analyses and site walks with area leaders
  • Conduct slip tests, light tests, noise surveys, IAQ investigations as-needed
  • Partner with the Safety and Health Programs Team to conduct indoor air quality investigations
  • Help with Cal-OSHA complaints and inspections
  • Be the Safety & Health Duty Manager on a rotational basis.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Here’s what you need to be successful at this job:

  • 3+ years of industrial safety experience in a related industry such as petrochemical, construction, maintenance, manufacturing, hospitality, entertainment/theatrical, transportation, distribution/warehouse
  • Background and in-depth knowledge of industrial fall protection
  • Comfortable working at high heights and wearing active fall protection equipment
  • Knowledge and hands-on application of regulatory standards, best practices and guidelines, such as confined space, incident investigation and root-cause analysis
  • Expert in recognizing hazards and proposing mitigations
  • Proficient in each of WDP&R's leadership competencies (Leadership, Management, Technical, and Relationships)Creatively resolve problems – sometimes in areas outside your realm of expertise – and work within a dynamic, sometimes ambiguous atmosphere
  • You will work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and evenings

Preferred Qualifications

It would be great if you also have:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated safety management experience
  • Experience in utilizing web-based mapping tools like ArcGIS
  • Passion for mentoring others through training and feedback

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in the safety and health field
  • CIH, CSP, or CPE certification

The hiring range for this position in California is $85,800.00-$115,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
