Job Description

As Regulatory Counsel at Google, you'll provide legal advice on compliance programs and policies, manage government and regulator discussions, and interpret laws into requirements for various teams. You'll work on cutting-edge legal issues related to technological innovations, collaborating with cross-functional teams across the company. The role requires proactive risk assessment and advising on products that comply with global laws and regulations, pushing information law forward. You will be working with regulators, including State AGs, FTC, DOJ, and global data protection or consumer protection authorities. Google Legal crafts innovative approaches for complex legal challenges, working at the intersection of law and technology.
Must have:
  • JD, LL.B., or equivalent
  • Bar admission or authorization to practice law
  • 7+ years of attorney experience
  • Experience with regulators
  • Compliance program development
  • Risk mitigation
  • Cross-functional teamwork
Good to have:
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Experience with public company boards
  • Experience with technology companies
  • Project management skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • 7 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience with legal, regulatory or corporate compliance, including strategically addressing, minimizing and avoiding regulatory risk.
  • Experience engaging with regulators, including States AG, FTC, DOJ, and global data protection or consumer protection authorities.
  • Experience developing, evaluating, and maintaining programs that ensure products comply with laws, regulations, and external commitments.
  • Experience with working with public company boards and their counsel, including special committees and audit committees.
  • Experience working with technology companies and ability to understand complex technical issues.
  • Experience managing projects and partnering with cross-functional teams. Excellent attention to detail, time management, problem solving, and investigative skills.

  • Interpret laws and other compliance obligations into requirements for Compliance, Business, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Provide legal advice on compliance programs and policies to help mitigate risk.
  • Manage government and regulator discussions, negotiations, and disclosures on compliance readiness efforts.
