The Principal Group Engineering Manager leads the development of customer-centric products and services within Azure Customer Experience (CXP). Working with various teams (Program Managers, Data Scientists, Azure engineering, Field, and Support), this role involves defining and delivering critical products to support Azure teams and customers. Responsibilities include leveraging data-driven decisions, collaborating across organizational levels, and utilizing expertise across Azure's cloud technology stack. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership, technical, and communication skills, and a passion for delivering reliable and scalable products.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in CS or related field
  • 6+ years technical engineering experience
  • 4+ years experience with large-scale distributed systems
  • Proven leadership and communication skills
  • Experience with modern DevOps practices
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science
  • 6+ years people management experience (2+ years as 2nd level manager)

We are looking for an experienced Principal Group Engineering Manager with a passion for delivering well-designed, scalable, and reliable products and services, a genuine desire to lead, guide, and mentor other engineering managers, and a deep technical aptitude. As part of this role, you will collaborate closely with multiple teams across Microsoft to deliver key customer solutions and the technology to support them.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience with large-scale distributed systems and cloud technology stack such as Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS)

 

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • 6+ years people management experience including 2+ years as 2nd level manager
  • Experience with implementing large-scale distributed software services, modern DevOps practices (including Git, CI/CD, Azure DevOps) and cloud-based delivery models.
  • Architectural and technical system design skills and experience
  • Proficiency in computer science concepts including data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns. 
  • Reliable communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to develop key partnerships across teams and organizations.
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to effectively drive a team of software engineers.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
