Job Description

The Painter Show Finisher at Walt Disney World will produce and maintain themed show sets, props, figures, and characters using various mediums (FRP, butyrate, latex, etc.) in a shop and/or field environment. Responsibilities include developing material finishes, problem-solving, utilizing diverse techniques (fur, feathering, sewing, airbrushing), and handling cleaning chemicals. The role may involve work from elevated platforms and confined spaces throughout the Walt Disney World Parks and Resort property. The position requires a minimum of five years' experience in scenic painting or a related field, along with a portfolio showcasing relevant skills in animated figures, skin painting, mold making, and various painting techniques. Knowledge of human anatomy and proficiency in standard software are essential.
Must have:

  • Plastisol/hot melt skin buttering
  • Various sculpting mediums expertise
  • Fur & feathering techniques
  • Airbrushing & hand painting skills
  • Portfolio showcasing relevant work
Good to have:

The Painter Show Finisher will produce and maintain themed show sets, props, figures, and characters in a shop and/or field environment. The Painter Show Finisher will use multiple mediums and materials including FRP, butyrate, latex, oil base products, adhesives, urethanes, silicone, poly-mixes, acrythanes, enamels and black light. The field service position may include work from elevated platforms and confined spaces throughout the Walt Disney World Parks and Resort property.

The pay rate for this role in Florida is $36.49 per hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop material finishes from documented and undocumented sources
  • Utilize an array of materials and techniques to problem solve issues as they arise
  • Ability to use fur, feathering and sewing techniques
  • Ability to use resources for animated figure skin color matching to documented standards
  • Cast members may be required to handle cleaning chemicals and supplies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Valid Florida drivers’ license
  • Capable of working overnight hours
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a scenic painting or related field
  • Experience with silicone repairs and painting, plastisol/hot melt skin buttering, sculpting with various mediums, tree and foliage fabrication, fur and feathering techniques, scenic set painting, scenic treatments pertaining to attractions, airbrushing skills, and/or extensive hand painting techniques
  • Possess and present a portfolio reflecting past work experiences and projects of his or her work in relation to animated figures, skins, mold making, vehicles, dry brush, wash and faux texture painting techniques, and character finishes.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy artistically and mechanically.
  • Applied skills in fur, sewing, and pattern making
  • Basic understanding of black light paint and techniques
  • Knowledge of fiberglass and butyrate repairs and maintenance
  • Sculpting ability demonstrating a variety of forms, subjects, and techniques
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in standard office software programs and mobile electronic devices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Walt Disney Company families of brands, including Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, etc.
  • Computer proficiency in a Windows environment

Our Theme Parks and Resort Hotels operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Schedules and start times are subject to vary.
