Job Description

As a Hardware Validation Engineer in Google's Research and Development labs, you'll play a crucial role in supporting new product engineering and development. You'll design, build, and maintain system-level tests, ensuring product development teams can focus on innovation. Your work will involve developing software and hardware systems, defining methodologies and tools, and coordinating lab interactions with engineering teams. You'll also anticipate and resolve problems, escalating issues as needed, and generating implementation plans for deployment activities. This role requires a strong understanding of hardware engineering principles, experience with Linux, networking, and troubleshooting, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent
  • 4 years of experience in hardware engineering
  • Experience with Linux, Networking, Network Troubleshooting, Failure Diagnosis, Data-center Server, Debugging/Troubleshooting
Good to have:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • Experience with network design, protocols, and troubleshooting
  • Experience reading and writing code in Python or other scripting language
  • Experience working within a data center or networking operation center environment
  • Experience with computer systems (e.g., physical, functional, logical, mechanical, electrical, software, thermal, etc.)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in a hardware engineering technical environment, or 3 years of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Experience with Linux, Networking, Network Troubleshooting, Failure Diagnosis, Data-center Server, Debugging/Troubleshooting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).

You will support new product engineering and development in Google’s hardware Research and Development labs by helping to design, build, and maintain system-level tests. The Engineering Lab team performs work that allows product development teams to focus on development.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $142,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Help design and build system-level testbeds and maintain lab space, tools, and infrastructure.
  • Work with teams to develop software and hardware systems, and develop methodologies and tools to support team members.
  • Coordinate the interactions between labs and engineering.
  • Anticipate and resolve problems by applying knowledge, escalating design, manufacturing, and product test issues to other people within the organization when needed.
  • Generate implementation plans and provide technical knowledge and guidance during deployment activities.
