Job Description

Tesla seeks a highly motivated Electrical Equipment Engineer to join its Manufacturing Equipment Engineering group. This role involves designing and building robust, compliant, data-centric automated testing equipment for power electronics and battery manufacturing lines. Responsibilities include researching and specifying electrical test equipment, designing schematics and layouts for industrial control panels, developing test specifications, performing bench testing, implementing industrial safety systems, debugging automated processes, and characterizing equipment using statistical approaches. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with electrical test equipment, proficiency in electrical CAD software (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical), and a strong understanding of CE compliance standards.

We seek a highly motivated and hands-on Engineer with an electrical engineering background for a position in the Manufacturing Equipment Engineering group, a team focused on building robust, compliant, data-centric automated testing equipment for Tesla’s power electronics and battery manufacturing lines. This team concentrates on mechanical, electrical, software, and controls of capital equipment for our production lines around the world. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the “machine that builds the machine,” working tightly with power electronics product design and manufacturing.

What You’ll Do
  • Research and specify electrical test equipment such as measurement equipment, power supplies, sensors, I/O devices, and other hardware to meet test requirements
  • Design schematics and layout for industrial electrical control panels which are CE compliant and satisfy the Low voltage directive, EMC Directive and Machinery Directive.
  • Develop test specifications and break down requirements into a detailed execution plan
  • Perform bench testing on electrical components to validate test processes
  • Implement reliable industrial safety systems (OSHA, ISO, CE and NEN standards) to safeguard high voltage and mechanical hazards
  • Debug/optimize automated processes to minimize cycle time and maximize uptime
  • Characterize and validate equipment using statistical approaches (GR&R, Cpk)     
What You’ll Bring
  • Exposure to electrical test equipment including but not limited to power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power analysers.
  • Proficiency reading and building schematics for machines and/or PCBAs.
  • Profficient in the design, testing and lifecycle management of CE compliant products.
  • Proficient in EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical CAD software.
  • Degree in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of hands-on controls/mechatronics/test/automation engineering experience
