About the job

The Device Core Software team is responsible for the core software running on Pixel Phones, Foldables, and Tablets. Our team comprises the major software subsystems such as core bring-up, system health, performance, thermal, power, graphics, display, sensors, etc., in particular the intersection of AI/ML with these domains. We work closely with the Product Management team to define requirements and success criteria, with the Hardware teams to bring up new silicon and phones, and are key to shipping our Pixel products. In this role, you will be directly involved with shaping and driving our multi-year features and product roadmap for phones. You'll work with cross-functional groups and drive exciting new features to market.

As the Director of Software Engineering for the Device Core Software team, you will lead the Core System and Platform teams. With a focus on consumer-facing product design, you will collaborate with contributing teams to guarantee the long-term technical architecture and consistency of all underlying platforms, and to ensure that the features and experiences align with the overall vision for Pixel. In addition, you will be responsible for core system software for all our first-party Pixel devices.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the Software Engineering team handling core device software for our first-party Pixel devices.
  • Partner closely with the Android/Pixel leadership team, particularly Product, to ensure that Engineering is in lock-step with strategy and aligned with the Product vision. Work with our Hardware team to align on roadmap, schedules, and portfolio.
  • Collaborate effectively with leadership across Platforms and Devices and Google more broadly to deliver on annual and multi-year development plans.
  • Ensure that rollouts/launches are of the highest quality and delivered on-time to meet stringent, and often inflexible, market timelines.
  • Set the technical vision, lay out and execute on a strategic roadmap to ensure that Pixel is staying ahead of the industry in innovation and cutting-edge technologies.
