This role involves partnering with the Chief Strategy Officer to execute key strategic initiatives, leading the strategic planning process, and supporting key projects for the ELT and Board. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams across marketing, sales, and finance, and managing projects spanning consumer goods, entertainment, and tech industries. Responsibilities include identifying growth initiatives, allocating resources, developing relationships with internal leaders, and influencing stakeholders. Ideal candidates possess a strong background in management consulting, investment banking, private equity, or corporate development within a leading consumer, media, or technology company.

The Team:

Corporate Strategy and Development is a critical and high-caliber team focused on the top strategic priorities for Mattel. The team is responsible for setting the corporate strategy and driving long-range planning for the Company, driving M&A and corporate development initiatives, and working closely with senior leaders across Mattel’s organization on key growth initiatives. This is a high-profile team working with a diverse mix of both internal and external stakeholders, and Corporate Strategy alumni can be found in various leadership roles across the Company.

Job Description

The Opportunity: 

Mattel is currently seeking a Director to join the Corporate Strategy and Development team at our El Segundo, CA headquarters. Each member of this team plays a key role in shaping the future of Mattel and its franchise brands, including Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price, American Girl, Monster High, and Uno. 
This position offers:
•    Access to Mattel’s C-Suite and Senior-level executives
•    Ownership in cross-organizational projects with exposure to marketing, sales, and finance teams
•    Projects spanning the consumer goods, entertainment, and tech industries
 

What Your Impact Will Be:

Corporate Strategy:

  • Partner with EVP, Chief Strategy Officer to identify and execute on key strategic initiatives for Mattel, partnering closely with other members of the ELT and key leaders across Mattel’s brands and functional teams
  •  Lead the strategic planning process, in partnership with Finance, to identify and assess potential growth initiatives across the business in order to enable the ELT to decide where to allocate resources to strategic multi-year investments.  The strategic planning process is a critical business process working directly with the ELT and Board
  • Lead and support key strategic projects for the ELT and Board with cross-functional teams 
  • Develop deep relationships across Mattel’s GBT, Commercial, and Franchise organizations, partnering with leaders in these organizations to support key business priorities
     

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree, and MBA highly desirable, from a top-tier university
  • 12+ years of work experience, ideally in management consulting, investment banking, private equity, and/or strategy and corporate development at a leading consumer, media, or technology company
  • Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced environment and groom high-caliber talent on an accelerated career trajectory
  • Exceptional quantitative skills and financial acumen
  • Ability to develop deep trust-based relationships and influence different stakeholder groups directly and indirectly
  • Ability to effectively balance multiple simultaneous priorities and deadlines with tight timelines
  • Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making and quantitative skills
  • Self-starter and comfort with ambiguity; must be self-directed and proactive starting day 1 on the job
  • Persuasive communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to tailor communications to a broad range of internal and external audiences


The annual base salary range for this position is between $187,000 and $230,000
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
