*Pay Range: $18.00 - $25.00 USD hourly

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Color Assistant will be responsible for filling a variety of supporting roles to the colorist and providing support to produce color grading operations from ingest to delivery. Primarily they will learn new processes and maintain proficiency with evolving technical applications and trends with the company workflow. In this position they actively provide support and solutions for the colorist team.


 

MAIN DUTIES: 

The Color Assistant will assist in preparation for projects such as setting up the project folder structure and ensure all lists and references are properly formatted. They will prep and build project for color (conformed sequence, camera selects etc). They will flag and contact production coordinator  on any outstanding issues (missing media, conform issues, etc). They will check color project for issues and playback performance prior to session start and client arrival. They will communicate to artist all technical project details necessary for the artist to execute the project. They will communicate with production coordinators, artists and producers  about  all relevant information through out the prep, color, and post phases.

Other duties include:
  • Export project and hero stills for the projects worked on that day to requested archive location and communicate with production coordinator / manager upon completion.
  • Quality checking all rendered material for any missing material or corruption.
  • Contact client when files are delivered digitally , or production coordinator / manger if exported to drive.
  • Flag all system and tech issues encountered  to production coordinators so they can communicate with engineering, producers and submit support tickets.
  • Help support new processes and maintain proficiency with evolving technical applications and trends with the company workflow.
  • Maintain outstanding levels of oversight of deliverables manufactured within the feature finishing process.
  • Work as part of a collaborative team.  Document workflows and help train incoming new hires.
  • Apply primary responsibility skills toward the support of feature and episodic projects.
 
 

WHAT YOU BRING:  

The ideal candidate will bring previous experience with media/post-production industry and hands-on operator experience. They will bring problem-solving skills, good communication and interpersonal skills, and a great team player. They will have excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as an exceptional eye for detail. They will have a professional level English language skill, i.e. written and verbal. They will be detail-oriented with a strong ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve on the fly. The ideal candidate will also bring the following:

  • Previous experience in a high paced post-production environment.
  • Knowledge of short-form file-based and HDR workflows and delivery requirements.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a high paced team with varying skill and experience levels.
  • Calm and personable under pressure, whilst working on tight deadlines.
  • Proven and strong communications skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate, assertively and diplomatically with a diverse population.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team in a very fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Adaptable to constantly evolving scenarios and being able to pivot as priorities change.
  • Extremely high attention to detail and a fast learner of new concepts and workflows.
  • Ability to work on weekends, as necessary.
  • Ability to work variable shifts, as necessary.
  • Have a solid knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Can lift/carry items that weigh up to 25lbs.

The benefits for eligible part-time employees working 25 or more hours per week and full-time employees in the US include a comprehensive package of health, retirement, and insurance benefits and paid time off. The benefits for eligible project hires and part-time employees working less than 25 hours per week in the US include retirement, select insurance benefits, and where required by law, health benefits. For roles filled in Canada and other territories, local benefits plan offerings will apply.
