Job Description
The Applied Sciences Group (ASG) at Microsoft is seeking a highly motivated PhD student for a research internship. The intern will contribute to cutting-edge research in Large Language Models (LLMs), Vision-Language Models (VLMs), LLM/VLM-based agents, and Generative Image & Video. Responsibilities include conducting research, designing and implementing experiments, developing and optimizing algorithms, collaborating with the team, and presenting research findings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in LLMs, VLMs, or Generative Image & Video, proficiency in Python, experience with machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), excellent problem-solving skills, and strong communication abilities. The internship is located in London, UK.

Overview
The Applied Sciences Group (ASG) is seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our team as a Research Intern. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research in the fields of Large Language Models (LLMs), Vision-Language Models (VLMs), LLM/VLM based agents, and Generative Image & Video. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of experienced researchers and engineers to tackle real-world challenges and contribute to the advancement of AI technologies.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Strong background in LLMs, VLMs, or Generative Image & Video.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex ideas clearly.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong track record of success, evidenced by publications in prestigious computer vision and machine learning conferences, including NeurIPS, ECCV, ICCV, CVPR.
- Proven software engineering capabilities, evidenced by professional experience, internships, impactful open-source contributions, and success in coding competitions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research in one or more of the following areas: LLMs, VLMs, and Generative Image & Video.
- Design and implement experiments to test new hypotheses and validate research findings.
- Develop and optimise algorithms and models for various AI applications.
- Collaborate with team members to integrate research outcomes into practical solutions.
- Present research findings to the team and contribute to publications and patents.
