Company Overview:
Stemuli is a pioneering company at the intersection of AI, education, workforce development, and gaming. We're backed by the Gates Foundation, Google, Tim Draper, National Science Foundation; and recently named the 2024 Global Champion by AI For Good, the U.N.’s platform on AI. Our mission is to make education and workforce development personalized and accessible to billions of people while helping them navigate intellectually and economically fulfilling careers. We're a distributed company, HQed in Dallas, and with the AI team based in-person in Seattle.
The AI Team So Far:
We became a team (n>1 individuals) at the start of August. Since then, we have:
- Generated accurate curriculum identifiers for common core standards across 56 real courses.
- Ingested thousands of pages of educational content at 99.5% accuracy or greater.
- Developed an educational 'quest' generator for use in our game. Content in, engaging story and educational dialogue out.
- -Proved out the next stage of our content pipeline: generating educational 3D game experiences from an English-language prompt
- Built a sophisticated RAG-based career advisor that helps students go from their current interests through to careers they might like to pursue, and then guiding them towards the first steps they'll need to take on those career paths.
- ...not bad for three months of work, for an average of 1.5 people!
Position Overview: Join Stemuli as an AI Engineer and help transform education with advanced AI. As an early team member (fourth on the team), you're key in driving the mission to empower millions through innovative AI and gaming tech. Infuse Unity-powered 3D experiences with generative AI to create scalable, engaging educational tools that engage and motivate students. Our customers expect us to scale to 100ks of learners, soon. AI is central to our ability to deliver at that pace. Your creations will directly impact learners from elementary school to career, opening doors to economic mobility and lifelong learning. Shape the future of learning technology in this high-growth, high-impact role.
Specifically, the early projects for this role focus on core educational AI technologies: ETL on curricular and educational data; generating problems and content from scratch (even in traditionally hard subjects for LLMs); melding disparate data sources into coherent multimedia learning materials. And that's just the first 3-6 months!
Responsibilities:
- Develop and scale robust AI systems and data pipelines that power scalable, engaging educational tools
- Create and optimize generative AI models that enhance Unity-powered 3D experiences and other learning applications
- Collaborate with designers and engineers to ensure your AI innovations integrate flawlessly with our educational products and to bring custom LLM-powered NPCs to life
What We’re Searching For:
- Experience working with structured outputs from LLMs, validation, and re-asking (also valuable: RAG and search, finetuning. Weights and Biases familiarity)
- Strong problem-solving skills and a data-oriented mindset. You must love data, more so even than iterating on models.
- Passion for applying AI to revolutionize education: making education highly engaging, extremely effective, available to all.
- Ability to think creatively about UI/UX and reliability in the context of AI-powered experiences.
- Foundation in algorithms, data structures, and software design principles (CS, related undergrad, or equivalent experience)
- IMPORTANT: excited by the projects sketched above.
Tech Stack and Approach:
- We live in a Python world for AI work. Weights and Biases for LLMOps. Our backend involves education and gaming systems, but for example we use MongoDB in Google Cloud for one system. Our game systems are built with Unity (C#), but we don't expect you to have experience there.
- We emphasize practical solutions, iteration, and using the right tool for the job. Mantra: “If it can be done with an if statement, we use an if statement”
- A large part of our long-term AI advantage will come from how we combine unique proprietary datasets. We care a lot about data curation, and have a wide variety of sources to draw upon.
What We Offer:
- A mission-driven culture led by an inspirational founder, where you'll work alongside passionate experts to make a global impact on education through AI
- Opportunity to be a part of the first power brand in Future of Work x Education.
- Hybrid work environment (2-5 days/week in our Seattle office, which is home base for our AI team).
- Competitive salary range of up to $175,000, with meaningful equity.
- Comprehensive benefits package.
If you’re passionate about transforming education through AI and gaming technology, even if you don’t meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply. Stemuli is an equal-opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
