Universal Music Group's 2025 Summer Internship Program offers various Brand & Label opportunities in Operations across CA, FL, NY, and TN. Interns will gain experience in areas like analytics (data tracking, trend identification, dashboard creation), commerce (sales tracking, playlist management, physical product handling), copyright (data entry, contract processing), creative sync (pitching catalogs, tracking releases), and more. Responsibilities vary by department and include data analysis, reporting, marketing support, and administrative tasks. Interns must be currently enrolled in a US college/university, graduating between Spring 2025 and Fall 2027, and legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship. The program requires a 20-40 hour per week commitment.

Program Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited two or four-year college/university in the United States, pursing an undergraduate, graduate and/or law degree  
  • Graduating between Spring 2025 - Fall 2027  
  • Have access to housing and transportation within the designated city (We do not offer housing accommodations)
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship for employment visa status, now or in the future (e.g., H1-B, OPT, etc.)
  • Commit to 20 - 40 hours per week (based on individual business area)

Analytics (CA, FL, NY)

How You’ll CREATE:

CA:

  • Daily and weekly tracking of recent releases
  • Identify trends in our songs and albums that are driving increases
  • Work with different teams within our larger group on specific projects
  • Focus on using various datasets from both internal and external sources to solve problems from across the business

FL:

  • Special projects to enhance current dashboards.
  • Support with multi varied analysis in accordance to the team needs.
  • Weekly consumption reports.
  • Collecting, cleaning and design of useful dashboards for the team.
  • Documentation and maintenance of current reports.
  • Collaboration with all departments within the organization as needed.
  • Professional presentations in cases where its needed by the team.

NY:

  • A&R Research:
    • Supporting the analysis of emerging music trends and artist discovery by compiling and interpreting different data.
    • Assisting with creating reports that inform A&R decision-making.
    • Contributing to data-driven artist scouting by evaluating new talent using digital metrics
  • Digital:
    • Assisting in the analysis of social media and digital marketing campaigns, measuring engagement, reach, and conversion rates.
    • Helping to optimize digital strategies by analyzing campaign performance data.
    • Supporting the team in monitoring audience demographics and behavioral trends across various platforms.
  • Commerce:
    • Assisting with building reports to track key metrics and trends in digital and physical sales.

Commercial Partnerships (TN)

How You’ll CREATE:

Our department oversees the relationships of our distributing partners and the label. The department monitors streaming strategy, maintenance, trends, and pitching to editorial playlists. The team works to ensure that each release is being cared for and successes are communicated to all distributing platforms to ensure the most top tier support editorially.

Commercial Strategy & Partnerships Team (Commerce) (NY)

How You’ll CREATE:

The Commercial Strategy & Partnerships Team (Commerce) handles all things related to servicing and streaming of our roster's music across all DSP's. The commerce team oversees the overall marketing strategy of an artist's release which includes everything from working with DSP partners, internal teams, and artist management teams to maximize reach. The commerce team additionally works closely to manage all physical products as well as their set up at partners.

  • Update & maintain internal documents used for release planning
  • Create social assets for releases
  • Maintain artist profiles across various DSPs
  • Coordinate & ensure proper delivery of projects to DSPs
  • Pitch new releases & current label priorities for DSP marketing & playlisting opportunities

Copyright (TN)

How You’ll CREATE:

The Copyright team's responsibilities start with a song. We setup writers according to their contracts, enter any songs that come in with the contract, and handle all the PRO registrations to ensure our client is taken care of. With an ever-growing catalog of songs, our work is never done. We spend our time navigating the wild world of publishing, including but activities such as: processing new works, researching claims, resolving conflicts, tracking cut songs, submitting corrections to PROs, finding ISRCs, and more. We also work closely with other teams in Publishing, including licensing, sync, digital rights, and creative.

  • Catalog audits at the performing rights organizations
  • Tracking our new releases, and data entry.

The intern will learn about contracts, copyright and publishing, PROs, etc. We work on individual projects as well as team-based ones, depending on what's going on.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Experience with Microsoft Access a plus
  • Publishing/Copyright experience a plus but not required

Creative Sync (CA)

How You’ll CREATE:

The creative sync department is responsible for pitching artist catalogs under Republic Corps for various outlets (film, tv, ads, video games, sports, etc.)

  • Assist with weekly release schedule updates
  • Support with weekly themed samplers through collecting data, compiling media quotes and pulling album artwork
  • Research publisher info and pull label copy using our internal systems
  • Track film and television release dates for our pending sync requests
  • Work on a Monthly TV news update
  • Help update our Artist info grid as needed
  • Assist with keeping our Hit List updated.
  • Support the sync team with sorting and tagging within the audio library on DISCO as needed.
  • Various administrative ad hoc tasks to help support the team.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Media/Tech/Social media savvy (ie: TikTok trends, Billboard charts, etc)
  • Experience with DISCO program (preferred, but not required)

Ecommerce (FL)

How You’ll CREATE:

E-commerce department oversees all of the design, development, sale and marketing of artist physical products through D2C channels. We run all aspects of artist stores to offer fans the best product and experience.

  • Sample Management and shipment
  • Product set up sheet
  • Update marketing calendars, merchandise directory and other department records
  • Linkfire docs - resizing images, preparing links, etc.
  • Market research on artist merchandising and marketing

eCommerce/D2C/Revenue (CA)

How You’ll CREATE:

eCommerce/D2C dept. works with Interscope & Capitol marketing teams, Fame House, Bravado, & artists/managers to develop eCommerce strategies and next level fan experiences via the artists' webstores.

The Film & TV Creative Sync Licensing team at Interscope Capitol is responsible for placing the music you see in Films, TV Shows, Documentaries, Trailers, Soundtracks and more. From pitching and seeking new opportunities for our extensive roster to negotiating deal terms to confirm uses in Film/TV spots, our department does it all.

  • Assist with weekly emails highlighting ICLG new releases

Film & TV Music (CA)

How You’ll CREATE:

UMe's Film & TV Music Department handles sync licensing and marketing for the Universal Music Group's roster of legacy and frontline artists.

Our interns work across our entire team, from our dealmakers, who clear artist consent and negotiate sync deals, to our creatives, who market our assets to music supervisors.

  • Assist dealmakers in clearing artist content for sync deals

Finance (CA)

How You’ll CREATE:

The Finance Department is responsible for reporting all financial results, artist and label statements, budgets and forecast for the global Virgin Music Group. Team is also responsible for royalties, accounts payable and business transformation processes. NY office team members include the global CFO, and various other team members. Intern will work with other team members in NY, LA and UK.

Global Administration (CA, TN)

How You’ll CREATE:

Global Administration is responsible for core administration functions - copyright, royalties, income tracking and analytics, compliance. The department works with external clients and internal UMPG affiliate offices around the world and across the rest of the publishing business.

Covering core Global Administration functions, interns will be required to assist the following departments:

  • Global Copyright
  • Global Royalty

The interns will spend time learning and moving between teams, following the administration life cycle from basic system understating to more advanced knowledge of UMPG's administrative systems and processes.

  • Basic royalty matching and ingestion of data into UMPG core systems
  • Song entry, metadata research and enrichment
  • Registration of new and amended copyrights with different societies, service providers and partners on a global scale
  • Both regularized and bespoke Copyright reporting for internal and external recipients
  • Preparation and reconciliation of incoming royalty statements for processing and calculation

Global Finance (CA)

How You’ll CREATE:

The global finance team is responsible for the financial reporting and consolidation of the global music publishing results, as well as the oversight of the control environment. Outside of these FP&A duties, the team is responsible for investment analysis related to cash spend for the publishing business (i.e., new songwriter deals, acquisitions, etc.).

Global Replay Strategy (NY)

How You’ll CREATE:

The Global Replay Strategy team is responsible for identifying opportunities and building strategy to maximize the exposure and revenues of the catalogs of the actively signed artists across Republic Records, Island Records, Def Jam Recordings and Mercury Records.

Interns will help in updating our tracking docs, creating decks for optimization opportunities, brainstorming what to do for trending tracks and anniversaries, as well as compile old assets for upcoming anniversaries.

Label Management (TN)

How You’ll CREATE:

Virgin Music Group Label Managers manage the day-to-day activities for our distributed labels, guiding them with strategy, tactics and technical knowledge as they develop artists and monetize their distributed music and video content. 

The Label Manager intern will help gather information and manage our team calls with the US commercial team where we present our weekly priorities. They will also shadow our label management team on group calls, allowing them an opportunity to experience how label managers work with every part of our business from operations to physical and digital sales, finance, legal, sync, and beyond. They will help prep our marketing pitches for the digital commercial teams. This intern will also have an opportunity to work closely with colleagues from other teams that are based in Nashville, which includes Product Management, Marketing, Radio Promo and DSP pitching.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Experience with top digital music services and social media applications.
  • Customer service and teamwork oriented.
  • Some understanding of distribution and comfortable with data and evolving technology.

Label Operations (FL)

How You’ll CREATE:

The intern will aid on various operational tasks throughout the label with an overview on all departments. Notably, the intern will aid in overseeing Marketing initiatives, Commercial pitches, A&R processes & other label operations.

  • Oversee all operations at a record label, from product management and sales to marketing and A&R.
  • Work with the Label Operations VP to maintain effective delivery of products & be on top of marketing and commercial campaigns.

Music for Advertising (NY)

How You’ll CREATE:

The Music for Advertising team handles all brand-related sync licensing affairs for UMPG. The team consists of a clearance team that handles all requests from agencies and music supervisors, as well as a creative team that pitches UMPG's catalogue for advertising sync opportunities.

  • Various data entry tasks, including contact list updating, song database metadata tagging, tour date tracking, and more.
  • Generating artist datasheets.
  • Tracking music chart data on a weekly basis.
  • Picking out new releases in the catalogue to share with the team at weekly meetings.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong data organization / data entry skills.
  • General interest in a career in sync licensing.
  • Existing knowledge of music copyright administration and/or music supervision is a plus.

NA Administration (TN)

How You’ll CREATE:

North American Administration encompasses Royalty, Copyright, Licensing, Income Tracking, Audit, and Client Services functions for the US and Canada.

Physical/Catalog (CA)

How You’ll CREATE:

We have a very active physical department and roster - interns will work alongside the global physical team (catalog and new) learning the ins and outs of the physical business, the holes we need filled and the potential progress we can make with new processes implemented. They will also work alongside the head of global catalog who will be looking to launch a new approach to the digital catalog strategy in the coming months.

  • Work with the physical team to alleviate some of the workload that needs more attention and organization.
  • Participate in team meetings and planning.
  • Keeping on task for certain physical releases to supplement the rollout plans.
  • Work alongside the team to set goals and objectives for certain projects.
  •  Collaborate on potential catalog focuses for 2025 doing data (streaming and revenue) deep dives.

Product Strategy (CA)

How You’ll CREATE:

The product department at Virgin Music Group designs tools and products for internal teams and our client labels. Our intern will engage in a variety of tasks that support and enhance our product development processes.

  • Participate in product design brainstorming sessions
  • Assist with the management and organization of our project documentation in Airtable and help to prepare pitch materials for internal reviews.
  • Additionally, the intern will contribute to the testing and feedback cycles of new tools and features and may also assist with analyzing user feedback to inform improvements.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Proficiency in project management tools to effectively manage workflows and documentation.
  • Basic understanding of the music industry, including key trends and technology, to better integrate into projects and discussions.

Production (CA)

How You’ll CREATE:

he Production Department sets up, schedules and delivers all digital and physical releases. Production works closely with Marketing, Digital Marketing, A&R, Business Affairs and other departments to collect assets (credits, lyrics, cover art, masters) and obtain BA clearances so we can build out releases in our internal systems and get them delivered to digital partners before deadlines. We work with these same departments, artist managers, designers and our physical planning team, to manufacture physical products as well- vinyl, CDs, cassettes etc.

  • Learn the landscape and workflow of Production which includes physical / digital product set up, scheduling & delivery. This involves many internal data systems and processes.
  • Assist in the communication with artist management on fulfilling orders to ship physical product to artists on tour.
  • Assist the team with maintaining company-wide release schedules and prepping the PPM Agenda for product planning meetings.

We lead the overall strategy, sales, ideation/formation of all sonic releases in regards to Digital Streaming and Physical Partners for Interscope Capitol Labels Group. Our team works as one, super-serving our artists to the like of Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Gracie Abrams, Lil Baby, GloRilla, Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg, Olivia Rodrigo, Doechii, and many more.

How You’ll CREATE:

The Royalties department's function is to processes artist and writer royalties accurately and on time. Our inbound royalties team processes all incoming receipts while our outbound team makes royalty payments and handles reporting to our external partners.

  • Assist both the inbound and outbound team with key royalty processing functions.
  • Review and match songs in our royalty system to process incoming money
  • Review and correct song metadata for accurate royalty splits
  • Assist with the quarterly royalty payment process by pulling and reconciling royalty statement detail
  • Project: Review all artist deals and create a key deal points summary for internal reference and analysis

Sales/Revenue/Streaming (NY)

How You’ll CREATE:

The Verve Revenue team encompasses all forms of revenue streams from vinyl to merch, to streaming, and immersive experiences.

For the first 6 weeks, our intern will work with different team members representing each revenue sector including a general overall business review along with time with the streaming, analytics, and ecommerce teams. This will allow our intern to get a full understanding of how our team operates. For the final weeks, our intern will select with team they wish to take a deeper dive.

Streaming (TN)

How You’ll CREATE:

Touring and Artist Relations (CA)

How You’ll CREATE:

In this role, you will also develop relationships with multiple people in various departments on different levels as well as agents and artist managements. This is an extremely fast paced detail-oriented department that requires resourcefulness, poise, a sense of humor, and the ability to work quickly, calmly and accurately under pressure and intense deadlines.  Willingness to field emails and calls after hours as well as to work nights and weekends at live events is a requirement. Interscope is constantly evolving; thus it is imperative to collaborate cross-functionally to identify artists’ visions and set expectations related to how we can develop mutually beneficial partnerships.

  • Keeping all internal documents, shared drives, artists’ and label calendars updated with current information. 
  • Organize artists’ schedules with all the logistics for promo and travel information
  • Closely track updates on all tours to ensure we have the most current tour itineraries in hand.
  • Cross Reference ticket buys against schedules to ensure no dates are missed.  
  • Handle guest lists for showcases, screenings and special events.  
  • Help with will call ticket drops and on-site show coverage as needed. 
  • Assist with production of special events,  liaising with vendors and processing invoices as needed. 

Touring and Events (NY)

How You’ll CREATE:

Touring and event management for all Republic Corps labels handling all ticketing, events, showcases, and additional fan experiences as artists are touring on the road.

Day to day tasks will involve frequent research components and frequent tracking of requests across various departments and labels.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Beginner working knowledge of tour routing and venues.
  • Beginner knowledge of budgeting 
  • Interest in various levels of event production

Video & UGC Strategy (CA)

How You’ll CREATE:

The mission is to optimize distribution, engagement, claiming, revenue and visibility across all forms of Video & UGC related content, by way of in-house products & services, partner outlets, and 3rd party solutions.​ Supported by technology, updated workflows, protocols, and reporting, teams will be able to execute daily tasks and support client relations more efficiently & effectively while expanding oversight & service into new areas of the video and UGC space.

Multiple responsibilities and projects will be available across the video and UGC landscape.

On YouTube specifically, helping to better instate our rights management capabilities such as dispute resolutions, reference overlaps, and copyright issues. Having a good understanding of the rights admin space is essential to upholding best practices across the organization. Educating creators, users, and our marketing teams will be important as well. Reporting and analytics so our partners are receiving best in class data and actionable suggestions for rollout strategies.

There will also be projects aligned with identifying opportunities across the UGC marketplace on both established and emerging platforms.
