Job Description

As a Systems Development Engineer, Customer Deployments at Google, you'll be responsible for deploying and operating Google Distributed Cloud Hosted (GDCH) solutions at customer sites and internal deployments. This role requires troubleshooting infrastructure issues (network, storage, servers, OS, Kubernetes), conducting customer and partner training (including international travel), and participating in a 24x7 on-call rotation. You'll build expertise in GDCH, deliver train-the-trainer programs, and contribute to the automation of routine tasks through scripting. The position demands strong problem-solving, relationship-building, and communication skills to effectively collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders. You will manage services and systems at scale, focusing on automation, observability, and operational efficiency within Google's infrastructure.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent
5+ years in production distributed environments
TCP/IP & networking expertise
Infrastructure experience (Linux, Kubernetes, etc.)
German Level 2 security clearance (SÜ2)
Troubleshooting & issue resolution
Customer & internal deployments
24x7 on-call support

Good to have:

Customer Solution Engineer experience
SRE or IT production systems engineering
Scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.)
International travel (up to 25%)
Excellent relationship-building skills

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience working in production distributed environments.
Experience in TCP/IP and networking concepts (PXE boot, Subnets, VLANs, Jumbo Frames, LACP, NIC Teaming, Unicast/Broadcast/Multicast, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, SSH, etc.).
Experience in one of the areas of infrastructure (e.g., Linux, Kubernetes, Networking, Storage, etc.).
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Level 2 security clearance (SÜ2) under the German Classification Act (SÜG).

Preferred qualifications:

Experience working as a Customer Solution Engineer.
Experience in SRE or IT production systems engineering.
Understanding of physical server, storage and network devices scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.) to help with automation of routine tasks.
Ability to travel internationally up to 25% of the time.
Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to empathize with customers and understand their needs.
Excellent problem-solving skills.

As a Systems Development Engineer, you will be responsible for deploying GDCH solutions at customer sites as well as internal reference deployments. Responsibilities

Perform complex day to day troubleshooting and resolution of Infrastructure issues (Network, Storage, Servers, OS, Kubernetes, etc.).
Participate in Customer, Partner, and Internal team Deployments and training which will require international travel.
Deliver train-the-trainer programs to equip Google partners with the knowledge and skills to effectively conduct customer deployments independently.
Participate in the 24x7 on-call rotation to support escalations from client deployments as well as internal reference deployments.
