About the job

Job Description

Google's Cloud Supply Chain and Operations (CSCO) team seeks a Systems Architect to define Design for Operations (Hardware and Software) requirements for next-generation platforms. This role involves owning strategy and execution across projects (network switches to ML pods), reducing deployment, maintenance, and repair times and costs. The Architect will collaborate with data center operations, manufacturing, and supply chain stakeholders to define requirements, influencing new platform architectures through trade-off analyses with Hardware and Software Architecture teams. Responsibilities include identifying and mitigating operational risks, ensuring system design enables rapid deployment and minimizes downtime, and aligning stakeholders through clear communication. Mentoring a highly experienced operations team on platform architecture (hardware and software) is also key.
Must have:
  • 7+ years in system architecture and design for data center platforms
  • Experience taking platforms from concept to production
  • Hardware, software, and tooling expertise
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks
  • Collaborate with Hardware, Software, and Tooling teams
  • Align stakeholders and communicate effectively
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field
  • Experience with HPC and ML systems
  • Experience representing stakeholders in executive-level planning
  • Strong communication and multitasking skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in System Architecture and Design for data center platforms.
  • Experience with systems development and taking platforms from concept to production.
  • Experience with hardware, software, and tooling.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in representing stakeholders during executive-level planning and prioritization exercises.
  • Experience as a Systems Architect for High Performance Computing (HPC) and Machine Learning (ML) systems.
  • Strong communication and multi-tasking skills in an environment of shifting priorities.
  • Excellent consensus-driven leadership skills to define strategy, drive execution, and resolve conflict.

About the job

Be part of a diverse team that pushes boundaries, developing custom silicon solutions that power the future of Google's direct-to-consumer products. You'll contribute to the innovation behind products loved by millions worldwide. Your expertise will shape the next generation of hardware experiences, delivering unparalleled performance, efficiency, and integration.

Google’s Cloud Supply Chain and Operations (CSCO) team is seeking a Systems Architect to shape and strengthen Design for Operations (Hardware and Software) requirements for the next generation of platforms. The main responsibility is to own strategy and drive execution across a portfolio of projects, ranging from network switches to machine learning pods. The goal is to reduce time and cost for platform deployment, maintenance, and repairs.

In order to achieve the goal, the Systems Architect will interface with stakeholders from data center operations, manufacturing, and supply chain to crystallize Design for Operations requirements. You will influence new platform architectures through technical insights and trade off analyses with stakeholders from the Hardware Design and Software Architecture teams. You will help mentor a highly experienced team within operations for in-house competence in platforms architecture, both hardware and software.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Responsibilities

  • Identify operational risks of the system design to enable rapid deployment and minimize downtime during repairs.
  • Mitigate the operational risks through collaboration with partners in Hardware, Software, and Tooling teams.
  • Crystallize the tradeoffs between systems design and operational excellence to enable decisions, from the engineer level to the executive level.
  • Oversee the validation and tactical execution of the system design requirements, from ideation to ramp.
  • Align stakeholders across competing vectors through clear communication of updates, escalations, and achievements.
