CNN seeks a Supervising Editor in Washington, DC with 10+ years' experience in national-level news, ideally at a multiplatform organization. Responsibilities include top-to-bottom editorial management of stories, directing reporting, finding exclusive stories, coordinating across platforms (linear, digital, video), vetting information, editing, and publishing. The role demands strong leadership, newsgathering skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. You'll be responsible for ensuring editorial consistency across all platforms and overseeing the development of direct reports. Experience with hostile environment deployments and budget oversight is also crucial.

Your New Role… 

CNN is looking for an experienced journalist with strong news gathering abilities and leadership skills to be a supervising producer for enterprise stories. The supervising editor should be a collaborative, team player who can coax the best reporting and storytelling from our Washington reporters.  The supervising editor must have the ability to own all dimensions of the storytelling process from helping find unique stories, guiding reporters through the newsgathering, shaping the narrative, collaborating with others on presentation for digital, video and television, vetting the information and editing and publishing the final copy. 
                                                                                 
Your Role Accountabilities… 

  • Top-to-bottom editorial management of the stories – including directing and involving yourself in the reporting and element gathering, and clearing of information
  • Command of the Washington narrative with an eye for finding avenues to standout exclusives and unique stories that will engage the CNN audience.
  • Envision and assign reporting targets for story management projects, and be involved in the hands-on execution of those reporting efforts 
  • Monitor and lead the competitive landscape on those stories 
  • Ability to pivot quickly from one assignment to another and juggle multiple assignments 
  • Responsible for ensuring that all expressions of editorial on given stories land in a coordinated way on all platforms, linear and digital, text and video and other 
  • Serve as the network’s subject matter expert on these ongoing stories 
  • Approve scripts and stories for linear and digital platforms 
  • Ensure newsgathering resources are properly attached to said stories and coordinate with all units at CNN to help direct those resources
  • Ensures the ongoing training and development of direct reports 
  • May be responsible for commissioning breaking news on occasions.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of hostile environment deployments for field teams, and ability to work expertly within CNN’s systems governing these.
  • Budget responsibility and oversight.  

 
Qualifications & Experience… 

  • The successful candidate for this position will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in a news environment at a national-level news operation, preferably a multiplatform organization and 2 to 3 years of direct people management experience.
  • Possess exceptional educational acumen and ability to interpret complex editorial issues
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills and understanding of storytelling on multiple platforms
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced news environment 24 hours/ 365 days a year, including last minute travel.  
  • Degree in Journalism or equivalent work experience

Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $140,000.00 - $260,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
