As a Staff Software Engineer at YouTube, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of video sharing and connecting people worldwide. You'll lead high-impact projects, mentor engineers, and drive technical innovation across a complex, distributed system. This position requires extensive experience in software development, distributed systems, and large-scale infrastructure. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain software solutions that power YouTube's global platform.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience in software development
  • 5 years of experience testing and launching software products
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure
  • Experience with distributed systems or networks
  • Experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture
  • Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms
Good to have:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Experience with cross-functional or cross-business projects

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
