Job Description

This Staff Software Engineer role at Google Kubernetes Engine AI Training focuses on designing, developing, testing, and deploying large-scale software solutions for training next-generation GenAI models. Responsibilities include providing technical leadership on high-impact projects, facilitating alignment across teams, driving the technical vision for Kubernetes evolution, and mentoring a team of engineers. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in software development, data structures/algorithms, testing, launching products, and software design and architecture, along with expertise in AI frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX) and tools (Kubeflow, Ray.io, MLflow). The role requires strong leadership skills and experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
Must have:
  • 8+ years software development experience
  • Experience with AI frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX)
  • Experience with Kubeflow, Ray.io, MLflow
  • Strong software design & architecture skills
  • Experience testing and launching software products
  • Technical leadership and mentorship skills
Good to have:
  • Master's or PhD in relevant field
  • 3+ years technical leadership experience
  • Experience in a matrixed organization
  • MLOps experience in large-scale environments

Job Details


Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experiences with AI frameworks (e.g., Tensorflow, PyTorch, JAX), algorithms and tools(e.g., Kubeflow, Ray.io, MLflow).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
    • MLOps experience with large-scale distributed environments.
