Job Description

As a Software Engineering Manager in Google's Geo Auto team, you'll lead a team of engineers, managing project goals, contributing to product strategy, and fostering team development. Responsibilities include setting team priorities aligned with broader organizational goals, providing regular performance feedback and coaching to individuals, driving short-term technical roadmaps, designing and vetting systems, writing code to solve complex problems, and conducting code reviews. The role requires strong technical expertise and leadership skills in areas such as project planning and management. You'll work on projects related to automotive engineering, contributing to Google's mapping services and products.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
5+ years software development experience
1+ year leadership experience
Project planning experience
Team management and prioritization
Code review and mentorship
System design and development

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in Computer Science
Experience in a changing organization
Automotive engineering experience

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
1 years of experience in a leadership role (e.g., technical leadership or people management, supervision, or team leadership).
Experience with project planning.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
1 year of experience working in a changing organization.
Experience with automotive engineering.

Responsibilities

Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals, align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization's goals, meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching.
Help develop and drive the short-term technical idea and roadmap within the scope of the team, and evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
Design, guide, and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
