Job Description

This Software Engineer II role at Google focuses on developing secure software for Google's custom silicon. Responsibilities include developing secure ROM, bootloader, firmware, libraries, and tools for silicon validation and productization. The role requires gathering platform requirements from various teams, code review, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams throughout the development process. Debugging hardware and software issues on emulation and hardware platforms is also a key responsibility. The ideal candidate will have experience with embedded operating systems, software development (Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript), data structures, and algorithms. Experience with device drivers, frameworks for custom hardware, and ROM/Bootloaders/ARM/RISC-V is preferred.
Must have:
  • 1+ year software development experience (Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript)
  • 1+ year experience with data structures/algorithms
  • 1+ year embedded OS experience
  • Develop secure ROM, bootloader, firmware
  • Gather platform requirements
  • Code review and feedback
Good to have:
  • Embedded OS or SoC security development experience
  • Device driver and framework development
  • ROM/Bootloaders/ARM/RISC-V experience

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 1 year of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience working with embedded operating systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with embedded operating systems or SoC related security development.
  • Experience developing device drivers and frameworks for custom hardware.
  • Experience with ROM/Bootloaders/ARM/RISC-V.

Responsibilities

  • Develop secure ROM, Bootloader, firmware, libraries, and tools for silicon validation and productization of Google custom silicon.
  • Gather platform requirements from hardware, architecture, and software teams.
  • Develop and review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best security practices.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., hardware and software) throughout the development process, and debugging of hardware and software issues on emulation and hardware platforms.
