Job Description

As a Software Engineer III, Mobile (Android), Geo at Google, you will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions for Google Maps and related products. Responsibilities include writing and reviewing code, contributing to documentation, debugging and resolving issues, participating in design reviews, and working on projects critical to Google's needs. You will work with large-scale systems, data analysis, and visualization tools. The role requires strong Android development skills and experience with data structures and algorithms. The Geo team focuses on building accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps, solving complex computer science problems, and designing intuitive user experiences.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2 years software development experience
  • 2 years experience with data structures/algorithms
  • Android application development
  • Code review and debugging
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in CS
  • Experience with large-scale systems
  • Experience developing accessible technologies

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms in either an academic or industry setting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 2 years of experience with Android application development.
  • 2 years of experience with performance, large scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.

As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
