Job Description

Google is seeking a Software Engineer to join the GDC Operational Excellence team. This team is responsible for building the systems and tooling needed to support deploying and maintaining GDC systems—reliably, flexibly, and at scale. The GDC platform consists of rack and server infrastructure coupled with an Anthos/Kubernetes software stack. GDC systems can be either connected to the Internet or, to increase security, isolated by an air gap. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of software development, data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems. They will be responsible for full lifecycle development, including requirements gathering, systems design, implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring. They will also be involved in the general on-call rotation. This is a full-time position located in Sunnyvale, CA, USA.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages
2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms
2 years of experience with developing infrastructure, distributed systems or networks
Experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture
Full lifecycle development (e.g., requirements gathering and documentation, systems design and de-risking, implementation and testing in Go and Python, deployment and monitoring)
Experience working with Kubernetes
Excellent technical and problem solving skills in areas such as systems design, networking, troubleshooting, and cluster management

Good to have:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields
3 years of experience in one object oriented language (e.g., Go, Python, C++, Java)
Experience developing accessible technologies

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.
2 years of experience with developing infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
Ability to work non-standard hours (including on-call rotations, evening and overnight hours), weekends, holidays, and shift-based schedules

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
3 years of experience in one object oriented language (e.g., Go, Python, C++, Java).
Experience developing accessible technologies.
Experience working with Kubernetes.
Excellent software engineering skills, algorithm design, implementation, and testing.
Excellent technical and problem solving skills in areas such as systems design, networking, troubleshooting, and cluster management.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

Write product or system development code.
Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide on available technologies.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
Be responsible for full lifecycle development (e.g., requirements gathering and documentation, systems design and de-risking, implementation and testing in Go and Python, deployment and monitoring). Participate in the general on-call rotation.
