The DEE Technology Productivity Engineering team seeks a Software Engineer passionate about building quality into software applications. This role involves developing tools and tests for various Disney software products (web, mobile, OTT). Responsibilities include contributing to complex problem solutions, owning framework development, leading project features, providing strategic input, writing clean code, and becoming a core member of the Quality Engineering team. The ideal candidate will develop and support test automation frameworks, work with product and development teams, investigate and resolve framework issues, and champion Disney's quality values. The engineer will work on products such as ESPN, Disney+, Hulu, and more.
Must have:
  • 5+ years SDE experience with automated testing
  • Proficient in object-oriented design and Python
  • Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills
  • Experience with test automation frameworks
  • Contribute to complex problem solutions
Good to have:
  • Experience with React, Node.js, mobile app development
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS)
  • Agile methodologies, web accessibility fundamentals

  • Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, CI/CD experience
  • Gherkin Syntax, advanced mocking mechanisms

JOB SUMMARY

The DEE Technology Productivity Engineering team is seeking a Software Engineer who has a true passion for using software engineering to build quality into software applications. This engineer will help us develop tools and write tests that support a large variety of Disney software products on web, mobile, and OTT platforms. We are looking for an Engineer who is excited to push the envelope and grow with our team.

Just some of the exciting products we work on include the websites & mobile apps for ESPN & ESPN Fantasy, ABC / ABC News, Disney+, Star+ and Hulu, National Geographic and Marvel Unlimited! We work very closely with these brands and teams and strive to be as close to the product as possible as we are also fans ourselves!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributing to the successful implementation of solutions for complex technical problems with engineering teams

  • Owning the development and maintenance of one or more functional areas of core frameworks, execution environments, build systems and tooling used across multiple products

  • Leading the successful design & implementation of one or more project features with input from senior engineers

  • Providing strategic input on future initiatives with stakeholders and other engineers

  • Contributing to and collecting data to inform Key Performance Indicators used for defining project statuses and effectiveness 

  • Check-in valuable, clean code daily that adds new features and capabilities

  • Becoming a core member of our Quality Engineering team, helping others increase productivity through innovation, and championing the core value of Disney Quality

  • Developing and supporting test automation frameworks, execution environments, build systems, and reporting tools

  • Work with product and development teams to implement a full stack quality solution

  • Investigating and resolving any framework, tool or execution of environmental issues affecting our services

  • Becoming a core member of our Productivity Engineering team, helping others increase productivity through innovation, and championing the core value of Disney Quality

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a software development (SDE) occupation, including automated testing of front end and backend services

  • Proficient in object-oriented design and expertise with Python

  • Experience with test automation and unit testing frameworks

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to use standard software development lifecycle (SDLC) tools such as Jira and Confluence, and version control systems.

  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to deliver project tasks on time.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Highly motivated, self-starting individual

PREFERRED:

  • Experience shipping a production React or Node.js application

  • Experience in mobile application development and testing

  • Experience with developing applications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)

  • Experience working with Agile methodologies

  • Working knowledge of web accessibility fundamentals

  • Experience with Kafka, Amazon SQS, and Kinesis

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, and continuous integration/delivery systems

  • Experience writing Gherkin Syntax to facilitate the development of automated test scenarios

  • Experience developing advanced mocking mechanisms (e.g., rule-based proxies and dummy-services)

  • Experience with test suite/case/run management tools (e.g., JIRA Xray, etc.)

The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles is $132,700 to $ 182,500 per year, in Washington and New York is $139,040 to $191,200 per year, and in San Francisco is 145,400 to 199,2900. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
