We are looking for a structured and highly motivated and strategic project manager with political flair, ideally with experience from the Port sector, or similar infrastructure industries such as mining, offshore wind or oil and gas.

The Concession Excellence team

The APM Terminals Concession excellence team is a new unit based out of the corporate headquarters in The Hague, where this role is ideally based, although we are open to alternative solutions for the right candidate.

The Concession Excellence team is responsible for designing and driving projects across the globe, that enables us to maintain and improve our concessions and local development activities globally, to maintain our position as preferred partner to governments and local societies.

Role and Responsibilities

The Senior Concession Manager is a newly established role, with room to define your job as the team develops. You are expected to define, and project lead the execution strategic deep dives on our key port concessions around the world in coordination with our Senior Concession Leads.

Key activities include analysing the strategic intent towards negotiations, our stakeholder strategy and engagement as well as building customised value propositions to our local stakeholders in collaboration with our Managing Directors, as well as our Communications and Public Affairs teams.

Project management

  • Identify, screen, evaluate and manage cross-functional projects related to concession management across the globe.
  • Assess the local engagement strategy of senior management, make recommendations on engagement strategy and prepare proposals for negotiation processes.
  • Coordinate project planning in cooperation with requisite responsible functions and review of the respective functional input with a critical eye and ability to challenge (Business Intelligence, Public Affairs, Communication, Negotiation team)
  • Drive projects in liaison with Senior Concession leads from concept to conclusion. Establish positions on all key aspects (e.g., scope, analysis, governance).
  • Provide communication planning and relevant presentation material on the engagement strategy for mainly internal stakeholders.

Business development (Concession management)

  • Comfortable and confident in meeting and supporting the negotiations with high level government officials and other external stakeholders.
  • Maintain market awareness regarding market developments, supply/demand, pricing, competition etc., through internal and external sources and networking
  • Provide detailed industry and competitor information and analysis to management.

We are looking for:

Key professional skills/requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mind to navigate in complex external stakeholder environments.
  • Relevant experience with Public Private Partnership (PPP) practices and understanding of key risks and opportunities in concession agreements in port or similar infrastructure business
  • Good understanding of Public Affairs or External Relations strategies
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Existing network within shipping, maritime, terminals industry is an advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and meet terminal teams, government officials, customers or other internal and external stakeholders.

Key personal characteristics/skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written). Possess empathy, personal tact, and multi-cultural understanding.
  • Outgoing person with the ability to establish contact easily and eagerness to deliver.
  • Drive, intellectual curiosity and interest in taking on new tasks.
  • Well-organized, timely, and persistent.
  • High level of initiative and strong sense of accountability.

Background / Education

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent, likely in either Business, Economics, Law or Political Science
  • 5-10 years of working experience with/in responsibility in strategy, M&A or Business/Corporate Development, ideally in an asset heavy industry
  • Fluent in English
