Job Description

As Regulatory and Litigation Counsel, Privacy at Google, you'll lead responses to regulatory inquiries, investigations, and litigation, overseeing information collection and production for external submissions. You'll advise on government audits and exams. The role demands experience in navigating complex legal, regulatory, and litigation matters, including minimizing regulatory risk. This involves defining defense strategies, conducting investigations, and representing Google in engagements with regulators (State AGs, FTC, DOJ, and global data protection authorities). The ideal candidate will possess strong experience with high-risk incident response within technology companies, expertise in privacy and data security, and a proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including public company boards and their counsel. You'll be crafting innovative approaches to address the legal challenges of the information age, working at the intersection of law and new technology.
Must have:
  • JD/LL.B or equivalent
  • 7+ years attorney experience
  • 7+ years regulatory & litigation experience
  • Experience with regulators (State AGs, FTC, DOJ)
  • Bar admission or authorization to practice law
  • Lead responses to regulatory inquiries and litigation
  • Oversee information collection and production

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • 7 years of experience with legal, regulatory and litigation matters, including addressing, minimizing, and avoiding regulatory risk.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience engaging with regulators, including State AGs, FTC, DOJ, and global data protection or consumer protection authorities.
  • Experience developing, evaluating, and maintaining programs that ensure products comply with laws, regulations, and external commitments.
  • Experience with managing projects and partnering effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with public company boards and their counsel, including special committees and audit committees.
  • Experience working with technology companies and ability to understand complex technical issues.
  • Experience with high risk incident response within internet or technology companies, including expertise in privacy, data security, or consumer protection subject matter.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $224,000-$319,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
