Job Description

Google seeks a Network Operations Engineer to join its Technical Infrastructure team. Responsibilities include responding to network outages, diagnosing Layer 1-3 network errors, developing diagnostic workflows, participating in 24/7 global shift rotations, providing remote field support, and interfacing with customers on repair updates. The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, 2+ years of carrier-scale telecommunications experience with optical networks, transmission systems, and Layer 2/3 routers, and strong troubleshooting skills. Experience with rack and stack, Python coding, and network maintenance is preferred. This role directly impacts the reliability and scalability of Google's global network.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field
2+ years carrier-scale telecom experience
Optical network, transmission systems, Layer 2/3 router expertise
Network operations & troubleshooting skills
Respond to network outages and initiate repairs

Good to have:

Rack and stack experience
Python or similar programming language skills
Network maintenance experience

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience in telecommunications at carrier scale working with optical network infrastructure, transmission systems, layer2/3 routers, and data services.
Experience in network operations and systematic troubleshooting.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience with rack and stack, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of routers and other network equipment.
Ability to code in Python or a similar programming language.

Responsibilities

Respond to network outages by providing a diagnosis of Layer 1 to Layer 3 network errors and initiate and complete network repairs.
Develop workflows and systems to diagnose optical Layer 1 and Layer 3 network issues to completion.
Participate in 24/7 global team shift rotations.
Provide remote support for field operations related to network repairs.
Interface with high-level customers communicating repair status and updates as needed.
