This role involves supporting cloud infrastructure deployments, configuration management, incident resolution, monitoring, and automating tasks for data center networking components. The Network Development Engineer will ensure 24/7 service availability for internal and cloud-hosted services, handling customer traffic efficiently and securely. Responsibilities include engaging in the entire lifecycle of classified networks, scaling systems sustainably through automation, analyzing requirements, developing solutions, partnering with application groups, and leading the development of Google's production network infrastructure. The engineer will work with classified networks in Top Secret environments. This position requires extensive experience in networking, scripting/programming, and familiarity with cloud technologies.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years networking experience (preferably in classified environments)
  • TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
  • Scripting/programming proficiency (Bash, Python, Golang, or C)
  • Experience with network fundamentals, routing, switching
Good to have:
  • Experience with L4/L7 load balancers, service meshes, DNS
  • Cloud service provider network operations team experience
  • Network operations center experience
  • Proficiency with Docker/Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with Ansible, Puppet, or Chef

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in a networking role, preferably in Top Secret, classified environments.
  • Experience with one or more scripting or programming languages such as Bash, Python, Golang, or C.
  • Active US Government Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (TS/SCI) security clearance with polygraph.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with layer 4 (L4), layer 7 (L7) load balancers, service meshes, and Domain Name System (DNS).
  • Experience working with a cloud service provider network operations team.
  • Experience working in a network operations center environment.
  • Proficiency with container orchestration technologies, such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency with network fundamentals, routing, switching, and infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Ansible, Puppet, or Chef and design/implementation management solutions to enable network operations.

In this role, you will support cloud infrastructure deployments, configuration management, incident triage and resolution, monitoring, and the automation of manual tasks with code for data center networking components. You will keep internal and cloud-hosted services available 24x7 while ensuring customer traffic is handled efficiently and securely. You will be familiar with service provider network protocols and possess experience operating production scale networks. You will have experience with network function virtualization, automation and container orchestration technologies, and demonstrated proficiency in one or more scripting languages.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$178,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Engage and improve the whole life-cycle of classified networks from inception and design, to qualification and validation, through deployment, operation and optimization.
  • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms such as automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
  • Work with other team members and groups to analyze requirements or potential problems and proactively develop solutions and policy recommendations.
  • Partner with Google’s internal application groups and design network infrastructure which meets their networking requirements.
  • Lead development of Google’s production network infrastructure through published engineering design documents and specifications. Lead the requirement analysis, engineering design, and solution development of Google’s production network infrastructure.
