SummaryBy Outscal

Junior Narrative Designer needed for interactive stories. Must have proficiency in English, storytelling, and branching storylines. Experience with romance genre is a plus.

WHO ARE WE?

We are a team of seven who are behind the creation of stories for our narrative games. We’re currently looking for a new member to join our squad, so if you are a passionate storyteller, we would love to hear (and read) from you!

We release new titles every couple of months, but we continuously add new stories to our existing games. To get a general feel for the content you will be creating and editing, feel free to check out our games Tabou Stories: Love Episodes and Winked: Episodes of Romance. 😌

HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE?

  • editing and proofreading our interactive stories
  • improving and developing new branching storylines, plot, characters and dialogue, with an opportunity to pitch and outline your own story
  • ensuring style consistency, as well as story continuity and high immersion
  • brainstorming (new content, existing content, new story ideas)
  • collaborating with other departments to ensure the highest quality of the narrative
  • learning to understand both the game and the target audience to ensure the game values are respected and that the game meets expectations

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO UNLOCK THIS ROLE?

  • availability to work full-time (students are welcome, too)
  • proficiency in English, especially written
  • knowing your way around Google Workspace
  • ability to critically analyze a story: its plot, pacing, and characterization
  • being flexible and easily adaptable to our specific writing needs: knowing the difference between writing for yourself and writing for a specific audience :)
  • knowing how to prioritize tasks to meet set deadlines
  • ability to think in branching storylines and where they lead
  • being comfortable with mature content

WHAT WILL SET YOU APART?

  • being a student or a graduate of English Language
  • being a bookworm
  • familiarity with the romance genre
  • being a passionate gamer
  • having a penchant for world-building and storytelling

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT HERE?

  • Financial benefits: On top of a competitive salary, we offer additional financial benefits, such as a Christmas bonus, Easter bonus, and summer bonus, as well as referral bonuses and fully covered transportation expenses.
  • Professional development: As the gaming industry evolves and grows, so will you! We promise a structured and smooth onboarding process, complete with scheduled feedback sessions and support from both a mentor and a buddy. To keep you and your team on the cutting edge of industry trends, we also provide a team budget for ongoing education.
  • Fostering team connection: You’ll be joining an amazing team of talented individuals who form a closely knit community. We actively support team connection through various internal workshops that facilitate knowledge and skills sharing. Additionally, we host exciting quarterly parties, an annual off-site teambuilding event (check out this video from our last adventure!), engaging pub quizzes, and our creative internal game jam. Our team also has the opportunity to propose ideas for new games, fostering a strong sense of ownership and purpose.
  • Work-life balance: We are deeply dedicated to our work, but also understand the importance of switching off and recharging. To support this, we offer flexible working hours, allowing you to start your day anytime between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m, along with an hour-long lunch break and 24 days of annual leave. Our flexible work model allows you to choose the environment where you work best, whether that’s from home, the office, or a mix of both. During your onboarding period, we’ll ask you to work from the office to get acclimated and connect with the team, but once you're up to speed, you'll have the freedom to select the work arrangement that suits you best.
  • Well-being: Your well-being is our priority. We support it by covering your monthly Multisport card membership and providing a free annual health check-up. Enjoy healthy (and indulgent) snacks, a free daily lunch when working from the office, and occasional discounts on various services and products.
  • Family benefits: Parents, you are included too! We offer kindergarten compensation and a special baby bonus for soon-to-be parents.

If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, we look forward to your application!

Please apply with a cover letter and a CV in English only 😊

Also, please submit the following:

  • A short story pitch in English (maximum length: 300 words) in which you include some of these elements: office building, love triangle, secret letter, island resort, hot boyfriend, stolen necklace, annoying boss, cameras, popcorn. Please post a link (Google Drive, OneDrive) that will guide us to your masterpiece in the URL section of this application form. Have fun and be creative!

WHAT’S NEXT?

  • Initial Screening: We’ll start by reviewing all applications to identify those best suited for the position. If you’re not selected this time, please feel free to apply again in the future; we’d be happy to consider your application. :)
  • Practical Assignment: To give you a clearer picture of the role and help us assess your fit, you'll first have to complete a practical assignment from home. You’ll have 5 days to complete it.
  • First Interview: Candidates who excel in the assignment will be invited to an interview. This will combine a culture fit assessment with a technical evaluation to further explore your suitability for the role.
  • Final Interview: If you advance to this step, it means you are among the top candidates for the role. A final interview with our Head of HR and Department Head will be scheduled to discuss your fit for the role and address any remaining questions. :)
  • Final Decision

Note: We are currently only considering candidates who are based in Croatia for this role.
