Why you'll want to come to work:

The Finance Controller will be instrumental in managing financial planning and analysis as well as accounting functions for our rapidly growing company. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will  develop a deep understanding of the mobile games business, mastering cohort forecasting and the cost per acquisition vs. predicted lifetime value equation. You’ll be immersed in the data-driven decision-making of the free-to-play mobile game industry.

You’ll provide financial analysis to support key business decisions, helping to determine the best path forward. Your contributions will have a strong operational impact across the company.

In addition, you’ll bring your expertise in managing and adding to a high-performing finance and accounting team, while also leveraging technology to the fullest to automate processes. You’ll be hands-on, while guiding the team through monthly reporting, forecasting, and the accounting close.

Your Impact:

  • Financial Leadership: Develop and measure financial scenarios, guiding strategic decisions that achieve company goals and profitable growth.
  • Budget Management: Prepare the annual budgets and the long range plan, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and planned for.
  • Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation and presentation of financial/compliance reporting to senior leadership and stakeholders, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Financial Efficiency: Oversee cash flow to ensure operational liquidity and identify cost-saving opportunities to enhance overall financial efficiency.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential financial risks, ensuring the financial stability of the company, including analyzing risk/return, business insurance assessment and relations, and foreign currency flux.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously refine financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with teams across the company to ensure financial considerations are integrated into strategic initiatives.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and build the finance and accounting team, overseeing recruitment, industry training, and overall team performance.
  • Audit and Compliance: Manage external audits, ensuring financial practices and internal controls comply with GAAP and are best practice.
  • Accounting Operations: Oversee and lead accounting functions, including tax compliance, tax strategies, monthly close and reforecasting, as well as the day-to-day accounting and payment management.  

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Educational Background: A solid foundation in finance and accounting, with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. CPA preferred, MBA is a plus.
  • Finance Leader: You bring 8-12 years of finance experience, driving impactful results through your expertise in financial planning and analysis as well as accounting.
  • Systems Expertise: You’re a NetSuite or similar ERP expert, with knowledge of how to best utilize technology to streamline operations.  
  • Data Driven: You excel at breaking down complex financial data into clear, actionable insights that guide strategic decisions. Your ability to forecast financial outcomes and identify cost-saving opportunities is second to none.
  • Regulatory Savvy: Your deep understanding of financial regulations and compliance ensures that all financial operations are airtight. You’ve successfully managed risk in fast-paced, competitive industries, keeping your organizations on solid financial footing.
  • Collaborative Spirit: You’re not just a numbers person—you’re a team player who knows how to work closely with different departments to ensure that financial strategies align with overall company goals. Your communication skills and strategic acumen allow you to build strong relationships and influence decisions at all levels.

At PlayQ, we leverage competitive benchmarking data when setting each role’s base pay range. Individual base salary will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, scope of role, business need and geographic location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$150,000-$190,000 USD + Equity Options

Additional information:

  • In-office location: Santa Monica, CA
  • Hybrid Environment: 2-3 days onsite presence at our brand new office in Santa Monica 
  • This role is offered as a full time position.
