Job Description

As an Expert Technical Artist at Sledgehammer Games, you'll be responsible for building and delivering essential technologies and workflows that empower artists and designers to seamlessly integrate visual content into our games. You'll possess a keen eye for artistic quality, a deep understanding of real-time requirements, and exceptional communication skills. This role involves establishing best practices, pushing content creation to its limits, developing tools and processes for content authoring, and collaborating with other technical artists to refine studio pipelines. You'll proactively identify and solve problems, proposing innovative solutions that elevate our games.
Must have:
  • Advanced understanding of real-time engines (UE4, Unity, CryEngine)
  • Artistic eye and knowledge of 3D art creation and integration
  • Expertise in modern DCC tools
  • Shipped at least 2 AAA titles on multiple platforms (PS4, Xbox-One)
  • Excellent communication skills
Good to have:
  • Python, HLSL, GLSL proficiency
  • C++ experience or Computer Science degree
  • Extensive portfolio showcasing professional work (art, scripts, tools)
  • Blueprint or asset scripting abilities
  • Mentorship or training experience

Your Mission

As an Expert Technical Artist, will provide support building and delivering key technologies and workflows that enable artists and designers to quickly implement visual content into our games. The ideal candidate will have a strong eye for art quality and knowledge of real-time requirements and constraints. He or she will act as a bridge between art and engineering demonstrating superior communication skills to facilitate problem solving between departments while adding new ideas, new techniques and working with the latest technologies to create world-class games. 

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:   

  • Establish consistent and optimal best practices 
  • Consistently push content creation to maximum potential
  • Create tools and processes that facilitate content authoring with an emphasis on user experience, quality and productivity 
  • Collaborate with other Technical Artists to improve studio tools and pipelines. 
  • Proactively identify problems, propose solutions and seek out buy-in from the team regarding implementation strategy 

Player Profile

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced understanding of one or more commercially available real-time engines (e.g. UE4, Unity, CryEngine). 
  • Artistic eye with advanced understanding of the creation & integration of 3D art
  • Advanced understanding of modern DCC tools
  • Shipped at least 2 AAA titles from start to finish on multiple platforms (e.g. PS4, Xbox-One.) 
  • Excellent communication skills, especially with regards to illustrating technical processes. 
  • Proficiency with Python, HLSL,GLSL 

Extra Points:

  • C++ experience or Computer Science degree 
  • Extensive portfolio with examples of professional work (e.g. art, scripts, tools, simulations, etc.) 
  • Blueprint or asset scripting abilities. 
  • Has trained or mentored others.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $46.73 - $86.49 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
