The Role:
We are looking for an Associate Product Manager to join one of our Data Access Services team. As a key member, you will join a dynamic and fast-paced environment and work with cross-functional teams to support to define the requirements and manage the roadmaps for your platform, design, building and rolling-out new features that deliver the organization's vision and strategy. You will act as both product expert and consultant to the business side and are responsible for gathering business requirements, setting the development roadmap, and executing on that roadmap.
This person should have a basic financial background with experience managing large data sets for functionality and collaborating with internal and external clients. This person should be quick to learn Morningstar data and products and be able to translate product/client request into an actionable vision for how to build out our capabilities for highest impact.
We follow a hybrid policy of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote work.
Responsibilities:
- Play the role of “Product Owner” in Data Access Services – investment API team
- Conduct necessary detail analysis of business requirements from data consumers
- Work with Product Manager to Translate the product strategy/roadmap into user stories/product requirements. Creates and maintains the product backlog to manage these stories
- Makes oneself accessible to the development team to answer questions, convey product knowledge and deliver direction during product development
- Reprioritizes the product backlog based on user/customer findings or team feedback during the development process
- Works with Program Management to determine technology, design, and project management resource requirements to execute product strategy and deliver on commitments. Jointly responsible for release planning and feature\release coordination
- Works with Scrum Masters/project management on sprint planning and project tracking
- Works with Tech to ensure that user needs are technically feasible and can be built in such a way as to maximize engineering efficiency while adhering to Morningstar best practices
- Is responsible for the successful launch, on time and on budget, of service and service features while meeting business and product metrics as decided with executive leadership
Qualifications:
- Strong data sense and decent knowledge about finance market
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions
- 2-3 years of experience working in product management, business analyst, project management, or program management for data driven functions
- Strong ownership, analytical and technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, under tight timelines while maintaining high accuracy and output
- Strong written and oral communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders from multiple teams at various levels
- Expertise in business process management from ideation to implementation
- Experience with leading a development team using an Agile methodology, including generation of epics, user stories, or technical requirements. Scaled agile, scrum
- Experience managing scope, and coordinating work with distributed teams in remote regions
- Proven project management track record to deliver projects within the specified time and quality
- Knowledge/Practice of SQL querying is needed, and exposure to Python will be an advantage
- Bachelor's degree
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with Morningstar products, especially data background
- Experience in analyzing and manipulating big data sets, integrating new data sets into functional workflows
- Master’s degree on Finance or Data Scientist or CFA would be a plus
