Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in thermal design using CFD tools such as Icepak/FlothermXT for analysis of products.
  • Experience with heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
  • Experience setting up test plans for validation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
  • 8 years of experience in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and CFD modeling (e.g., Icepak, FloEFD, or Flotherm).
  • Experience writing automation scripts (e.g., Linux shell, Python, etc.).
  • Experience with the development and integration of electro-mechanical components, such as display assemblies, batteries, and antennas.
  • Knowledge of thermal materials like gels, TIF, heat sinks, graphites, and other heat spreaders.

As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and diverse range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.

The Pixel Watch Structural and Thermal Simulation team provides product design guidance for upcoming Watches based on Finite Element and CFD models. The team also focuses on improving and validating models through material, component, and system-level testing.

Responsibilities

  • Influence product direction through cross-functional negotiations and teamwork based on thermal design, simulation (CFD), and validation.
  • Create test plans to validate design and correlate test results to simulation data, and improve predictability of simulation models.
  • Interpret and summarize thermal data, highlight risks, and provide recommendations to program teams and upper management.
  • Guide cross-functional team members in hardware and software to provide feedback on product thermal performance, thermal throttling strategy, and appropriate design changes for various conditions and limitations.
  • Work with certification agencies on meeting requirements and mitigating concerns.
