Job Description

As a Systems Engineer II in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Data, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, uptime, and performance of Google Cloud's services. You'll work closely with software and systems engineers to build and manage large-scale, fault-tolerant systems, using your expertise in coding, algorithms, and system design. Your responsibilities will include: - Engaging in and improving the whole life-cycle of services, from design to deployment and refinement. - Supporting services before they go live by consulting on system design, developing software platforms, and conducting capacity planning. - Maintaining services by monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health. - Scaling systems sustainably through automation and implementing changes to improve reliability and velocity. - Practicing sustainable incident response.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
Experience with programming in one or more languages.
Experience with system administration (e.g., filesystems, inodes, system calls) or networking (e.g., TCP/IP, routing).
Proven ability to design, build, and operate large-scale systems.

Good to have:

Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS).
Experience with automation tools and scripting languages.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with programming in one or more programming languages.
Experience working with administration (e.g., filesystems, inodes, system calls) or networking (e.g., TCP/IP, routing, network topologies and hardware, SDN).

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering.

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE ensures that Google Cloud's services—both our internally critical and our externally-visible systems—have reliability, uptime appropriate to customer's needs and a fast rate of improvement. Additionally SRE’s will keep an ever-watchful eye on our systems capacity and performance.

Much of our software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. On the SRE team, you’ll have the opportunity to manage the complex challenges of scale which are unique to Google Cloud, while using your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis and large-scale system design. Responsibilities
