Job Description

This Senior Staff Software Engineer role at Google focuses on AI/ML within Google Cloud Compute. Responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing large-scale software solutions; providing technical leadership on high-impact projects; managing project priorities and deliverables; facilitating team alignment; coaching engineers; and driving technical project strategy for ML infrastructure optimization. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in software development, data structures/algorithms, ML design, and leading technical projects. Experience with speech/audio processing, reinforcement learning, or ML infrastructure is highly valued.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
5+ years ML design & architecture
7+ years leading technical projects
Experience with large-scale ML infrastructure
Expertise in data structures and algorithms

Good to have:

Master's or PhD in related field
Technical leadership experience
Experience in complex, matrixed organizations
Experience with speech/audio processing or reinforcement learning

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.
5 years of experience with one or more of the following: Speech/audio (e.g., technology duplicating and responding to the human voice), reinforcement learning (e.g., sequential decision making), ML infrastructure, or specialization in another ML field.
7 years of experience leading technical project strategy, ML design, and optimizing industry-scale ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $237,000-$337,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large scale software solutions.
Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects. Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines. Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
Drive technical project strategy, lead large-scale ML infrastructure optimization, and oversee the design and implementation of solutions across multiple specialized ML areas.
